Office Horror Stories: True Workplace Nightmares

We’ve all had them. The co-worker that just seems a little off. What do you do about that? How do you handle the creepy co-worker? That’s what we discuss today on Office Horror Stories!

One day after one of my coworkers had come from this particular restroom, she came to me and told me that one of the security guards had walked in on her while she was in the bathroom but she was 100% certain that she had locked the door. We brushed it off assuming it was just an accident, maybe she hadn’t locked the door or maybe the lock was faulty. That was until a few days later another coworker came to me and told me that the same guy had walked in on her too and she was 100% sure that she had locked the door as well. At this point, I’m disturbed. I tell them that they should file a claim with HR because it’s no way that he would “accidentally” walk in on 2 people that close together when they both were adamant about locking the door. My coworkers were shocked when they both found out he had done it to both, but they kind of brushed it off again. Honestly, I felt like I was more concerned and disturbed than my coworkers who it happened to. If he’s busting in on women while they’re using the bathroom and acting as if it were an accident who knows what other sick shit, he was capable of. I was also pissed at my job for hiring yet another creep in security.

Inappropriate Videos

What would you do if your job was to literally watch inappropriate videos all day? That position exists, and it’s a much worse job than you could ever imagine. We learn about it today, on Office Horror Stories.  Here’s a preview of the office horror story we will be talking about: 

“All day we have to witness inappropriate, violent, horrific, weird, and some I don't have a word to describe videos. I can't remember how many suicides live feeds that we have to take down and call the authorities on, we've also been exposed to recordings of terrorists doing brutal acts, pornography, drug use and many more. Most of my team mates experienced psychological distress, imbalance and downright weird behaviors. We have no doctor or advisors on site to provide psychological counseling and help us go through with whatever it is we're experiencing. I developed anxieties and experienced nightmares almost every night. I started seeing things and have to spend my own money to seek medication. One of the worst moment is when a team member attempted to commit suicide after spending only 9 days in the company. We started wondering why we get majority of the worst videos and other contractors get the sweet cat and sporting videos. The management told us that this was the queue that's been provided by the client and that's something that we could not control. After working some time for the company, the client decided to send that task abroad for lower labor costs. I personally felt bad that the people who are risking their sanity just to screen these inappropriate videos and avoid it being seen by the general public are not provided with the proper support.”

Scabies Outbreak Fun!

Employees in the world of housekeeping come across a lot of crazy things… But how crazy can it get in a nursing home? What may be asked of them from the residents? Today we find out on Office Horror Stories!

Here’s a preview of the office horror story we will be talking about: 

“Our facility was preparing for “state” to come in. My department was busting ass deep cleaning, changing curtains, etc.

WELL the whole week prior to this, we had complaints from a handful of residents about the new soap we were using in the laundry. They all had the same rash. But we never switched soap. Nurses were notified, and nothing more was said.

So, we’re doing the curtain changes and deep cleans. That means every single room. It was almost time for my shift to be over, I start finishing up my work and putting my equipment away when my boss comes up to me. She said we were having a meeting with the administrator and the director of nursing, in the 3 years I worked there that had never happened. We go to the meeting, it’s just the nurses and housekeepers. So, I’m weirded out.

They calmly explain that they finally decided to investigate the “rash” that was dismissed almost immediately the week prior. They explained that all the residents had it now and asked if any of us had it. A few of the nurses had a couple spots, but my department had none.

Without warning, the administration announced that our facility has had scabies our break and they were only treating the employees who had the rash, everyone else was free to go. Housekeeping was asked to remove all the curtains, recliners, pillows, and clothes from every single room.”

Warehouses can be incredibly dangerous places to work. Powerful equipment, heavy boxes, and lots of people dodging each other, avoiding one disaster after another. What could possibly go wrong? We find out today on Office Horror Stories!

“Now this is a WAREHOUSE where forklifts and other powered equipment is being used around pedestrians all day long. The bosses in this facility wanted the forklift drivers to pretty much run these things right up to the line of dangerous all day long to get the orders filled as fast as possible, and if you are not fast enough, you get bumped down to filling the orders which is not a job that a 40 year old can do. The lift that I was assigned to have an issue, sometimes it would just randomly stop turning right or, sometimes it would just randomly turn right. Both issues were well documented and "fixed" several times. The last day that I worked there, this piece of shit randomly turned right into a rack and destroyed two pallets of product in the process. My boss came over to inform me that although he didn't want to write me up, we need to go to the office and fill out the write up. I told him not to even bother with the trip because I had found a better job with better pay and an owner who actually gives two shits that out tools are in proper working order.”

“So, after a while other coworker noticed my supervisor likes to pick on me a lot. It only got worse over time no matter how hard I worked. I got in trouble many times for changing songs on my iPod. I got in trouble for timecard fraud when I was telling my supervisor all the issues, I was having clocking in. The laptop we had to clock in from was either down or frozen. She let the new manager write me up when I told her what was going on. So, after a while I just kept pushing because I'm a single mother with just my income for me and my son. I had to suck it up till I could even find something. Things over time got way worse and I got in trouble for even going to the bathroom. I suffer from panic attacks and mental issues I even had workplace accommodations for when things got bad. One of my male managers told me I had to smile more. I never had a problem with coworkers a lot of them loved how much I helped them or worked with them. Suddenly I was no good anymore and people feared me. It wasn't true but my manager and supervisor told me this. My final straw was I had to let them know when I had to go to the bathroom. If I didn’t, I would get written up, it was insane.”

It happens to many of us. Getting fired from a first job! How often is that firing justified though? Today we hear about a zealous boss who seems to have a systematic way of “removing” people.

“One evening she came in with her husband and was bickering and fighting with him. My other coworker and I said good night and walked out the door, while the owner was putting something away in the dessert cooler. The next day she accused one of use of leaving the cooler "open four inches!". I tried to explain to her that she was putting things into the cooler as we were walking out of the door. She didn't buy it. The next thing I got accused of doing was dumping trash bags over a back wall instead of throwing them into a dumpster. Of course, she didn't believe that I hadn't been doing that. At this point I was already on her bad side and could not do anything right. Did I mention how much I was getting paid? Somewhere in the ballpark of 5.50 an hour. Tips weren't exactly pouring in. I probably didn't have more than 15 hours in a week. The owner did not believe in giving raises to employees until they were no longer teenagers...which meant you couldn't get a raise until you were twenty years old! Things had gone sour between me and her in only a matter of weeks. One afternoon while I was at school, the owner called my mother at home and told her that she no longer wanted me to come in to work. When my mother informed me of what happened, I felt humiliated...I had been fired from my first job!”

Sometimes bosses… drunk ones…  have rather unrealistic expectations. Expectations that can never be met, nor should they be! You can do a better job!! Today on Office Horror Stories!

“I was exhausted as I had been in classes all week and working extra as it was Christmas and I needed some extra money for presents etc. After the party finally finished around 1.30, we were expected to clean up as usual. I asked if we were being paid for the extra hours and I got laughed at. He literally laughed in my face. He told me to carry on cleaning and to stop asking questions. He went to the toilet and came out in a fit of rage. Screaming ‘YOU TOLD ME YOU HAD CLEANED THE TOILETS’ I replied, ‘I have, they may not be perfect seeing as I am exhausted and the cleaning equipment you have provided is not particularly adequate, but they are clean. I am sure if there are any issues the day staff can do it in the morning to help us out’. He came storming over, screaming at me that he was the boss and he would decide who does what. I was told to go back into the toilet and rectify my mistakes immediately. I was on my hands and knees cleaning the toilet well after 3am, knowing I stopped being paid 3 hours ago, with a drunk middle-aged man literally stood over me screaming to do a better job.”

“Several weeks later, I have a message on my work voicemail. The caller spoke too quickly, and was a bit slurred, but I could make out that he was calling about the soldier and Emma Watson. I also understood the number he gave me to call him back. The number had an Illinois area code, so I assumed he must be a soldier.

Thinking there was something further to report about this small story, I called the guy back.

At that time, before Emma Watson was “self-partnered,” she was dating a Rugby player who went to Oxford.

The guy answered and when I told him who I was, he started telling me Emma Watson’s then-boyfriend was plotting to “assassinate someone prominent”, “blow up a prominent building”, and was a terrorist on top of all that.

He also said he reached out to the FBI as well as NBC, Fox, and CNN news. Dumbfounded, I asked “how do you know all this?” I didn’t know what else to say.

He said something but didn’t articulate his words, so I couldn’t understand.”
