In January 2020, the Duterte government banned the deployment of Filipino workers to Kuwait over the death of a Filipino domestic worker. Earlier this May, the government of Kuwait suspended the visas of hundreds of OFWs, leaving many stranded and unable to return home or to work. This diplomatic standoff is having a devastating impact on Filipino workers, who are caught in the middle.
