Today's episode dives into the often misunderstood world of herpes and family life. You wouldn’t believe how many people still ask, 'Can you really have a family with herpes?' Spoiler alert: Yes, you absolutely can! We're here to debunk those persistent myths and provide you with the hard facts.
Herpes simplex is far more common than people realize, yet the stigma remains. My goal in this episode is to smash those stigmas, educate, and remind you that having herpes is completely normal. Let’s break down the barriers together and embrace the truth about living with herpes and building a happy, healthy family.
FACTS:
- 80% of Australia's have herpes (HSV 1 or HSV 2)
- 12% of Australian's have genital herpes (HSV 2)
- You do not legally have to disclose that have herpes (but ethically & morally its the right thing to do)
- Herpes is in the same family as chicken pox
To be infected with a herpes virus is therefore a state of normality, not an abnormality. It happens to all adults, some of us with symptoms and some without.
The key thing is not whether you are infected or not, but whether it is causing symptoms or not – and if it is, then what can be done about it.
