In Part 2 of our episode on artificial intelligence, we’re sharing a conversation with Bernhard Debatin, a journalism professor at Ohio University and the director of the Institute for Applied and Professional Ethics. We decided to publish this conversation in full because of how wide-ranging the discussion ended up being, and we felt that you can’t distill a proper discussion of ethics into just a series of soundbites. This format likely won’t be for everyone, but we hope you give it a chance.

As summer 2019 rounded to a close, Ohio University hosted the first-ever It’s On Us National Student Leadership Summit, bringing hundreds of students from across the country together to discuss the pressing issue of sexual assault on college campuses.

RaeAnn Ensworth, a senior at OHIO, attended the conference with the intention of applying what she learned to her leadership role on campus. The vice president of public relations for the Women’s Panhellenic Association, the governing body of ten member sororities at Ohio University, Ensworth wanted to spearhead initiatives within the community in support of a culture that respects and supports survivors.

In this episode of Ohio Today Radio, we follow Ensworth through the first months of the fall semester, to see where her activism takes her and what she learns along the way: the importance of honest and open dialogue.

Throughout our existence, humans have gazed at the night sky and used its steadfast patterns to understand and improve life on Earth. This vast starscape has defined seasons, unlocked navigation, and inspired wonder and awe for millennia.

Today, as the practical uses of the night sky have been eclipsed by modern technology, we’re left to still marvel at this unknown landscape – to look farther and to answer deeper questions.

In this episode of Ohio Today radio, Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy Ryan Chornock leads us on an exploration of supernovae – the universe’s most spectacular events – showing how what humans have regarded as a vast, unchanging landscape is, in actuality, anything but.

Are student artists and student athletes—two seemingly disparate groups—more alike than they are different when seen through the lens of the word “practice?” Both Lauryn Glenn, an acting student, and Rudy Rott, a member of the OHIO Baseball team, say yes.
