On this episode, you get to meet my first guest from Europe Miha Matlievski! He is officially called "The Fail Coach"!
*Trigger warning discussions on attempted suicide
In 2009, Miha had four companies go bankrupt overnight: landing him $5 million in debt. Contemplating suicide to escape the pain as he looked over the balcony, he had a life-saving AH-HA moment. He realized that failure was a normal part of life: admitting to himself that he failed and to recognize he needed to stop blaming others and circumstances. This was the turning point when he made a choice to learn from his failures so he could do things differently in the future and to help others. Since then, he has climbed back to create a business and scaling it to 8 figures in less than a year. His life mission is to help people develop a healthy relationship with failure. Especially entrepreneurs.

I don't know about you, but I happen to be a huge fan of the Olympic Games. I would go as far to say an Olympics junkie. I have not missed a single Olympic games, whether it is the Winter or Summer Olympics , since the age of five. I resonate with the journey, discipline and struggle that athletes go through to try an achieve massive goals. I'm always amazed when I see sports like track and field, and gymnastics where we see people push past previous levels of human limitations, breaking world records on LIVE TV. So you can imagine, when I found out that the Olympics would have to be postponed it was a bit of hole in my heart and in my summer excitement.
Yet, I am thrilled to say that I had the opportunity to interview an REAL OLYMPIAN, an opportunity I never thought I would have. Let me introduce to you all Sarah Wells!
Olympian Sarah Wells is no stranger to overcoming obstacles. As an Olympic semi-finalist and Pan Am Games silver medallist in the 400m hurdles, Sarah's reputation was built through overcoming challenges and achieving the "impossible". Before finding the sport of track and field, Sarah was cut from every high school team she tried out for. It was thanks to a teacher who suggested she try running – that teacher believed in her before Sarah ever did. Together that teacher and her became coach and athlete and made the Olympics together just a decade later.
Sarah recognizes not everyone is going to have that "teacher" or person in their lives, who believes in them, so the Believe Initiative was created to be that person for as many people as possible.
KEY TAKEAWAYS:
Sarah wanted to originally be a dancer, and when she couldn't succeed in that space, she tried out for several teams and track was the only team that didn't make cuts.
She had a coach that saw her potential to run, and within eight months of training, she went on to win the provincial and then national championship that year.
She had developed a stress fracture right before the Olympics tryouts, and what was meant to be a three month wait to train become a nine month wait. This forced her to sort out her identity and worth outside of being an Olympian. Eight months later, she made it to the Olympic finals, to be chosen to go the Olympic games, where she was a semi-finalist and one of the youngest competitors in the field.
Make sure to document your process, especially through journaling. Reflect on how far you've come and make a choice to keep believing in yourself towards your goal.
Take inventory of the voice you allow to speak into your life, specifically voices that tell you it is impossible to reach your goals.

I connected with Melissa Rohlfs through a podcast community called SpotaGuest. She is passionate about wholistic health. She takes the concept weight-loss from simply trying to look great to the doing a deep analysis on lifestyle and habits.
Key Takeaways:
She started to become her journey to become a holistic health and fitness coach when she was hitting rock bottom with herself and her family. She recognized the positive impact that diet and holistic care began to have on her life and it helped her to propel her into healing from PTSD.
She learned there are nearly 100 diet theories, so it is essential that people discover what is uniquely beneficial for them.
She doesn't believe in fitness trends and diets, because she believes that everyone needs to look at their eating habits and diets from a deeper perspective on their relationship with food. The goal should not be a short term diet but rather a lifestyle change.
It's about changing habits towards a healthier lifestyle.
She found her business grew through outreach and truly showing up for her clients.

Alex Carmeli is the queen of building Facebook communities centred around a great mission. In three months she has built a Facebook community of 650 people from scratch called. " We Build Killer Teams: A Community of Purpose Driven Leaders." She is also the author of two books and like me is a millennial entrepreneur.
This episode was a treat for me to record, because not only was I getting to interview one of my contemporaries, I also gained an accountability partner and friend all the way from Boston. Since March 2020, we have been accountability partners. If you are interested in building a community around purpose and leadership, this is not an episode you will want to miss!

Key Takeaways:
Alex got into entrepreneurship from being a personal trainer, and learning the skills from training fifteen personal trainers and managing 4 to 5 locations and realizing that the skills of leadership and talent management could be applied outside of the the space of fitness.
Coaching is 80% behaviour change and 20% content. It comes down to a change mindset.
The biggest thing you need to do as an entrepreneur is to get out of your own way. Everyone has to start somewhere and it is a matter of just doing it.
The difference between people who are successful and people who aren't is that successful people are action takers.
She has a long term goal to create a movement, where leaders are building purposeful businesses and taking care of their people.

Travis was the first person in his family to go to university.
He is fascinated by the relationship between money and RELATIONSHIPS and how to make both thrive cohesively.
He discovered there was this huge gap between real authentic research and how people in the real world can access this data and apply it to their real lives. He felt like if he wanted to make a real difference staying in academia wouldn't accomplish this personal mission.
He suggests that couples talk about the stages of the business together for optimal success. There should be boundaries between business and home life, but if the business owner doesn't have the spouses support the data shows that business is less likely to reach its full potential.

When I first discovered Jason, he posted a video on LinkedIn titled "Never Stop Selling". It caught my attention, because this was two weeks into the early stage of the COVID-19 lockdown, where most people, including myself, felt uncomfortable with the idea of even posting content about our business. Yet, he talked about experiencing 9/11 and watching his life, and his finances flash before his eyes, and making sales calls two weeks after that event and gaining money back for his clients. I was fascinated by his story and I knew I had to interview him.

Key Takeaways:
Jason worked as a stockbroker, where he gained a salary of $300,000 within three months in his mid-twenties. He was living the high-life with nice cars and expensive watches.
In 2008, During the economic crash, He experienced a massive loss and went from making millions to working at a factory for minimum wage. From this event, He learned the true value of the dollar and how it was not about buying ten thousand dollar watches but having enough money to pay your bills and do what you love in the service of others.
He became a diligent content creator, where He makes consistent videos about how to do sales and sales calls. As a result, he has rebuilt his business, gained clients and grow a massive following for his personal brand.
In the content creation world, only 1% will create content, only 9% will actively engage and keep the platform going, and the rest will just lurk. If you are willing to show up and get past the pressure and anxiety you put on yourself to be perfect on video, you will be seen and your brand will be known.
This pandemic is literally the best time for you to start creating content, because everyone for the first time in history is stuck at home and spending excessive time on their computers and mobile phones. Jason believes as a salesperson, marketers or service person if you have not been putting yourself out there by creating content and giving value when the budgets come back, your services will be at the back of the line.

When I first met Jacqueline, it was at a marketing event called FUZE. I spotted her and Mandy, and I was a huge fan of their work with the Saskatoon Fashion and Design Festival, the only festival of its kind in our city. At the time, there wasn't a spot to fill out for volunteers at the site, so I went up to them and volunteered myself. Not only did they add me to the team, I got to be a member of the board for two years following that first event.
When I launched Okiki Consulting, I was looking for some internship opportunities, and this was when Jacqueline barely knew me and worked with the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival. Even then, she was willing to meet up with me for coffee on her lunch break and even give me some early career advice. It is so exciting for me to share this episode with you from someone I truly respect as a leader in fashion and entrepreneurship in my community.
Jacqueline Conway is an award-winning marketer and published fashion stylist with 10+ years experience based in Saskatoon, SK.
Her professional experience includes spearheading Canada's first fashion association with Mandy Pravda, launching Saskatchewan's first children's museum, Nutrien Wonderhub, driving 375,000+ people to Saskatchewan's largest music festival over 5 years as Marketing Director, and co-producing the largest outdoor fashion festival in Western Canada to date.
Her professional awards and nominations include the Marquee Event of the Year for the 2016 SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, named an it Girl for Saskatoon in the nationally published magazine FASHION, and nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award for Impact in Music Marketing.
Her company, TrendBlazer Studio, provides marketing and branding services for professionals developing personal brands in the coaching and consulting space throughout North America. As well, she is the Vice President of the Saskatchewan Fashion Association working to establish fashion as the next creative sector recognized and supported by the provincial government.

Jacqueline and Mandy started SFDF to bring a lens to the fashion industry in the City of Saskatoon and help designers grow their businesses.
It is important that whatever you build is working towards building a legacy.
Jacqueline's mantra is that everything should be IMPACTFUL, MEANINGFUL and SOPHISTICATED.
Sometimes you need to simplify to amplify. Start where you are, lay down the building blocks and build that community.
Creation over competition is critical now more than ever in the fashion industry, especially in light of social media, anxiety, and mental health. We are all in this together.
