Spencer, Dave and Cameron join forces to discuss and review the new Halo game, Campaign Evolved. A remake of the original Xbox classic of the very first Halo, Combat Evolved. Is this new one from 343/Halo studios the definitive version to play? Well, if you got PlayStation it's the only version but still, that is quite a landmark to see Halo on the PS. Almost slightly blasphemy but that is another discussion. Where on Xbox and PC you not only have the new version but the Anniversary remake and the original game via the Master Chief Collection. Though it is a bit of a bummer they didn't put the multiplayer from the original game in and added the extra PC levels too from back in the day. Having a cross platform battle with Xbox, PC, and PlayStation gamers would have been something else. Too bad Nintendo Switch 2 got left out of the party.

We all ran through this campaign to see how it compares to the classic glory of what might be the greatest launch title of all time, Halo Combat Evolved. I mean it was a game that delivered on all fronts, fantastic single player with the option of split screen co op and then you got multiplayer via 4 player spit screen or 16 player lan parties. Does it get any better than that? And what do you consider in the top tier launch title games? (Launch title being games in about the first 6 months of a consoles release). Super Mario 64 was always my go to, but it doesn't have multiplayer. Smash Bros Melee being the other big dawg in the running.

The new version of Halo is made to be like an entry slot for new players to the series. Of course, some of those old fans might be thrown off by some of the small changes and a few goofy choices. It's like Star Fox and all its remakes. You just are not always going to get the same, classic dialogue as 64 with the new takes. But the new Halo still offers tons of fun and that Halo gameplay that you would expect. With split screen co op for the best experience still intact and if you are not in the same vicinity, well they even got 4 player online co op too. Pretty darn awesome. Especially with some cross play thrown in. There are even some extra bonus prequel missions, that might not add much more story wise but at least make for 3 hours more of gameplay challenge.

Spencer and Cameron are going with a double feature review of 2 alien abduction horror video games. First, we are starting off with Body Harvest from the earlier days of Rockstar North. An exclusive on the N64 and filled with insect invasions that are harvesting the earth throughout time, big wide-open worlds, and jumping into any vehicle you see on screen. A lot of proto GTA 3 is here along with a dark looming story of you having to save the last of humanity before we are all consumed. Really nothing else out there like it. Especially on the Nintendo 64. But it also is a bit of a hard challenge of a game, even today. So, you may need to take a historical look at it. But for those of us who experienced it in the 90s, it really was something special.

Next, we played Prey from 2006 because that seemed like a perfect companion to Body Harvest. Prey is all about a Native American guy, named Tommy who gets abducted with his girlfriend and grandfather from their reservation bar and then has to fight his way out of the alien mess. Using very unique cyborg like alien weapons and then his Cherokee spirit powers, there is so much unique gameplay going on here. Using the Doom 3 engine and coming from the minds of 3D Realms, it's a super combination of power that has just been lost in time over the years. Though you can still pick this one up on Xbox Series X. Not to be confused with Prey 2017 which is a completely different game. Prey 06 even has cool Art Bell Coast to Coast segments worked in to give a real, genuine alien experience to the whole journey.

Pretty much 2 games that were close enough to being launch titles for the N64 and Xbox 360, even if Body Harvest took an extra year to make it past development. They are both unique experiences to behold.

Spencer and Cameron are on to part 3 of the Metro games, with Exodus this time from 2019. A game we both had in our collection but have yet to fully get around to really playing till now. But this game is damn special. It's got the great gameplay of the first two games but now in a traveling across Russia by train type of adventure.

With just a little bit of open world ness without ever feeling like a chore. The action is great, the horror is enhanced, and the story just keeps adding more and more great scenes and choices to Artyom's journey. Now we are really looking forward to the VR game and then the 5th Metro coming out next year. Good times in store.

Wes and Spencer are back for more pulp hero movie action with the 1994 film, The Shadow on a Rewind Review of Via VHS. Starring Alec Baldwin, directed by Russell Mulcahy, and written by David Koepp. Along with Tim Curry, Peter Boyle, and Ian McKellen to name a few.

This film here is an interesting one. Some really great moments and also a lot of goofy and strange choices too. But nevertheless, it makes for a good watch anyways to experience this era of pulp comic superheroes. And like the others from this era, it would be cool to see someone revisit them before they become too old. Which by this point some are almost 100 years old.

Wes and Spencer are going back to 1991 in the pulp era comic book movie of The Rocketeer on a lost in the vault, Via VHS Podcast Rewind Review. The little movie that should have been a bigger hit, similar to most of these post Batman 1989 pulp era superhero films. This one overall captures the graphic novel comic by Dave Stevens well, with just some tweaks to generally dial in the story even more. Even if we don't get the Betty Page girlfriend, Jennifer Connelly is a superb choice.

Directed by Joe Johnston who would later go on to make Captain America and also staring Billy Campbell, Alan Arkin, and Timothy Dalton. This is a story that really needs another shot.

Featuring Tom Cruise and Sean Penn in their starting roles along with George C. Scott, Timothy Hutton and Ronny Cox too. This film is a totally fantastic hidden gem movie from the past that actually feels way more modern than its actual year of release. Top notch acting, a fantastic story really unlike anything we've ever seen and great action when the time comes.
