1820 – Russian Expedition Discovers the Antarctic Continent:
Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen and Mikhail Petrovich Lazarev approach the Antarctic coast, marking the first human exploration of the frozen continent.
1967 – Apollo 1 Fire Kills Three Astronauts:
Tragedy struck NASA when astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee were killed in a cabin fire during a pre-launch test of the Apollo 1 spacecraft.
1967 – Outer Space Treaty Signed:
The Soviet Union, the U.S., and the U.K. sign the Outer Space Treaty, banning the deployment of nuclear weapons in space and ensuring that the exploration of space remains for peaceful purposes.
1973 – Paris Peace Accords Officially End the Vietnam War:
The U.S. and North Vietnam sign the Paris Peace Accords, ending direct American involvement in the war. On the same day, Colonel William Nolde becomes the last recorded American combat casualty of the conflict.
2010 – Apple Announces the iPad:
Apple’s announcement of the iPad revolutionized the tablet market and marked a key moment in the company’s history.
