Iconic Coach Mike Ray shares stories from his long and illustrious career with the Old School audience. We break this episode up into 2 parts and we could have talked to Coach Ray for many more hours. From growing up in Bridgeport, transferring to Lawrenceville for his senior year (another legendary coach started at Lville that year as well), college at SIU, back home for his first teaching job and then taking over for John Brooks as the Saluki coach, broadcasting for WAKO, then a historic run for VU. Wow. What a career, and we’re not 100% sure it’s over. Here is a general timeline of the show:
6:27 Coach discusses the horrific traffic incident that he and Judy escaped from.
10:17 The early days of elementary school and his start on the basketball court.
16:00 His time as a schoolboy basketball player for both the Bulldogs and the Indians.
43:05 Off to college at SIU.
44:35 Coming back home to start a teaching career at Bridgeport / Red Hill.
51:18 Taking over the helm as the Saluki coach.
