  • THE INSIDER - JEFFREY WIGAND
In 1995 Dr. Wigand achieved national prominence when he became the tobacco industry's highest ranking former executive to address public health and smoking issues. He made the truth known to the public about the industry's disregard for health and safety during an interview with "60 MINUTES" and during a deposition he was compelled to give in an action against the tobacco companies.
A lawsuit was filed against him by Brown & Williamson because of his public disclosures about the industry's efforts to minimize the health and safety issue of tobacco use. (Louisville-based Brown & Williamson is owned by BAT Industries, Plc, the world's second largest tobacco concern.) The lawsuit was dismissed as a condition of the June 20, 1997 historic $368 billion settlement between the Attorneys General of 40 States and the tobacco industry.
The Academy Award-nominated film of Dr. Wigand's story from 1999 starred Russell Crowe in the part of Dr. Wigand. Other major stars included Al Pacino, Christopher Plummer, and Debi Mazar, who was my guest on 12/12/08, when Dr. Wigand called in to the show to scold her about smoking. This wound up on Page 6 of The New York Post.
This promises to be a riveting and informative show about tobacco and truth. 347-215-7536
Dr. Wigand has received numerous awards and public recognition for his action in revealing tobacco company research and marketing practices and he continues his efforts to reduce teen tobacco use through the non-profit organization he formed, SMOKE-FREE KIDS, Inc.

  • Paris Hilton's 'New BFF' Trashes Rift Reports
“It’s SO ridiculous,” Brittany says of rumors that Paris
is giving her the cold shoulder.
Paris’s New BFF Trashes Rift Reports:
    ‘I #$@!-ing Practically
    Live at Her House!’
Lest you believe all that chatter about her being on the outs with new BFF Paris Hilton, Brittany Flickinger wants everyone to know there’s zero truth to it. Brittany, who earned her title last month by trouncing the competition on the MTV reality series Paris Hilton’s My New BFF – which is currently casting wanna-BFFs for Season 2 – explains to Olivia Wilder how these terrible rumors get started.
“We’re not married. We’re BFFs. Friends aren’t attached at the hip 24/7. And when we’re somewhere together and we’re not attached at the hip, they’re like, ‘Oh, no. They’re fighting,’” says Britt.
But the Las Vegas-based rocker doesn’t stop there. She also trashes others hangers-on for trying to hog the Paris spotlight:
“Paris sees a lot of friends that she doesn’t see when we travel a lot that she doesn’t see ever. And aside from her never seeing them – and me being like, alright, she never sees them; give her some time – I #$@!-ing practically live at her house! I’m not gonna be like, ‘No, pay attention to me! Don’t pay attention to your other friends.’ We have other friends. She’s gonna hang out with her other friends. It happens.
“Aside from that, everyone’s kind of desperate, like, ‘I gotta get in the paparazzi shots with Paris!’ People shove me out of the way. I’m, like, let them embarrass themselves. I’ll just chill back."

  • JUDGE CRISTINA PEREZ
In its second season, "Cristina’s Court" won the first "Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program Award" at the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California on June 20, 2008. As the first female television judge to air in national syndication on a Spanish-language network series, Cristina presided over “La Corte De Familia” cases related to relationships, including physical and verbal abuse, paternity claims, child and spousal support and infidelity. Enormously popular in the U.S., “La Corte De Familia” was Telemundo’s number two daytime show for four straight seasons. The program also aired in 15 additional countries throughout the world. Prior to being named host of “La Corte De Familia,” Cristina made her television debut as host of “La Corte Del Pueblo (“The People’s Court”) on KWHY/Los Angeles.
In contrast to her tough persona, Cristina doesn’t wear “rubber gloves” in her courtroom. She has the unique ability to connect with her litigants on a very warm and personal level by sharing her wisdom, cultural background and moral beliefs with everyone who stands before her. “Cristina’s Court” consists of numerous small claims cases but focus on conflicts and legal arguments between families, couples and other relationships in turmoil, including friends, business partners and co-workers. Cristina hears cases ranging from ex-lovers fighting over possessions to an irresponsible teen who has stolen from his or her parents. Viewers will quickly see that Cristina, by nature, pours herself into each and every story, as she expertly weaves through the cases looking for the facts, providing direction, counsel and resolution in both an informative and authoritative manner. In addition to championing her legally binding judgments, Cristina simultaneously injects her moral principles and deep-rooted family values into all of her rulings. Judge Cristina will be on for approximately 30 minutes.

    Earthquake Alert!
Disney Star Shaken up Live on BTR
Quick – someone get Romi Dames a scale!
A Richter scale, that is. Because the Hannah Montana star may need it the next time she’s on BlogTalkRadio.
While chatting with Olivia Wilder Times host Olivia Wilder last night, the actress – who plays Traci Van Horn opposite star Miley Cyrus on the hit Disney Channel show – suddenly felt her building shake.
“Oh, my gosh! There’s an earthquake! I think so. Was that an earthquake?” she said live on-air. Moments later – having asked a nearby pal what happened – Romi added, “Oh, apparently it was someone on the roof. Never mind.”
But moments after that, she was once again skeptical. “I’m not convinced . . . There might have been an earthquake. Will someone tell me if there was an earthquake in L.A.?”
Though the issue was never settled on-air, Olivia – who podcasts from her home in Scottsdale, Ariz. – later checked with the U.S. Geological Survey, which reported that the shock that shook up Romi was in fact a quake.
“The magnitude 4.5 event occurred 2 miles SSW of San Bernardino, Calif.,” the USGS said.
