Results of the general election have been rolling in since early this morning. Michigan’s Democrats have largely come out on top, taking all major elected state offices.
Hillary Scholten's win made history in Michigan's 3rd Congressional District. She’s the first woman to ever hold the seat, and the first Democrat to represent the district in decades. Plus, Michigan’s Proposal 3 has passed, enshrining reproductive rights in the state’s constitution.
We’re talking with folks from all around the state today about the results of yesterday’s general election.

The project completely reimagines affordable living, and aims to set up community members for long-term success.
Marcel Price, known around the Grand Rapids community as “Fable," is a former poet laureate of the city, and the executive director of The Diatribe, a youth-focused non-profit. He joined Stateside to discuss a new affordable housing unit that The Diatribe is planning in the city’s Southeast side.

Voters have a few more days to weigh in on a proposal to embed reproductive rights into the state’s constitution. The result will have huge ramifications for all Michiganders, as voters will choose what reproductive medical rights look like in a post-Dobbs world.
Erin and Michael, a married couple whose names we’ve agreed keep anonymous, offered Stateside a personal story about their experience seeking an abortion.
The couple met at work, and have been married for 15 years. They’re raising their 8 year-old son and 4 year-old daughter in mid-Michigan. While Erin and Michael were eager to raise a family, their journey to parenthood was a harrowing one.
They joined Stateside to share their experience seeking an abortion.

Correction: An earlier version of this story erroneously stated that voters would decide this election cycle whether abortion will be legal in the state. Voters WILL decide whether abortion is protected in the state Constitution. There are also ongoing court battles over the 1931 law that are currently upholding legal abortion in the state.
In just a couple of days, Michiganders will vote on Proposition 3: a plan to embed abortion and other reproductive rights in state’s constitution. For people on either side of the abortion debate, this is a huge moment. Last week, we heard about what it's like to be at at one of Michigan's abortion clinics.
This week we're taking you to a small office in Dearborn Heights that houses the Lennon Center. It's a place where women call or visit every week when they’re pregnant, and they don’t know what to do about it.
To be clear, this is an organization that opposes abortion. And it’s one of many in the state that you might hear called “crisis pregnancy centers." Stateside recently spent some time there to hear about what this center in Dearborn Heights does, and how the staff there is feeling about this moment of uncertainty for legal abortion.

Hot topics in this year’s gubernatorial race include abortion, the Michigan economy, and schools. But there's a big issue that has not received much attention: environmental policy. As home to 1/5th of the world’s fresh water, decisions about how to interact with the environment can have strong and long-lasting impacts. On today's episode, we unpack what's at stake and glean where the candidates stand on issues of environmental policy.

Host Zoe Clark sits down with Clara Hendrickson of Detroit Free Press to talk about what could possibly happen at the polls come Nov. 8. Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson recently said she and secretaries of state across the country are most worried about, “violence and disruption on election day… and in the days surrounding the election.”
On Oct. 25, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Tudor Dixon met on the debate stage one last time before Election Day. Clark talked to a panel about what happened during the debate and whether or not it will have an affect on the outcome of the election. Then the panel dug into what to expect from former President Barack Obama's Saturday rally in Detroit as he campaigns for Whitmer. Then, we discussed a report from CNN about some racist remarks Dixon made back in 2020.
