Detroit artist Scott Hocking showed us around the city that in many ways is his studio. He's a specialist in creating beauty in the spaces most people have left behind, but his latest installation is much more public facing: in front of the Huntingon Place convention center downtown. The 11-foot "Floating Citadel" bronze sculpture unveiled this week.

The Three Fires teaching lodge at Grand Valley State University is the first lodge in Michigan to be built on public university land. Students traveled from as far as Chicago to help construct the lodge this summer. One of those students and a professor who led the project joined Stateside to talk about the significance of having a space reserved for Indigenous students on colonized land.

Inmates at Wayne County’s jail have experienced very long stays over the course of the pandemic. For many families who have loved ones at the jail, it can be financially challenging to stay in touch during such an extended period of time. Beenish Ahmed, Michigan Radio’s criminal justice correspondent, brings us a story from one woman whose husband is being held at the jail.
Sheriff Jerry Clayton also joins the show to discuss how Washtenaw County has been looking for alternatives to the costs of things like court-related fines and booking fees.

A group of teens are changing the theater landscape in Detroit. But they're not reinventing the wheel — instead they're building off of the Mexican Carpas theater tradition to create whimsical, bilingual performances. The group is called La Carpa Theatre and is run by artist Karilú Alarcón Forshee.

This week, Detroit singer and songwriter Lamont Dozier passed away at age 81. Dozier helped write and produce countless hit records during his career. His work played a huge roll in Mowtown's success, and in the dominance of Black music on pop radio.

Michigan's attorney general, Dana Nessel's office has been investigating allegations that some Republicans seized voting machines in 2020. Their goal was to “test" if any deficiencies could validate their conspiracy that Donald Trump actually won Michigan's 2020 presidential vote. But last night, Nessel dropped some pretty big news: One of the people involved in the alleged conspiracy is set to be her opponent as she runs for reelection this fall.
