Toho's "A" Team. Check. Two bonafide stars of film and television. Check. Trampolines. Super check. On paper, everything looks (blood) rock solid for 1969's US-Japan co-production of LATITUDE ZERO - but, it was definitely a paper tiger (errr...gryphon?)...because it was one of the studio's biggest flops. Our YHS on Monster Island hosts, "The Tattooed Titan of Tokusatsu" Jacob Walsh and "The Mayor of Toku Toy Town" Jay Key, share their thoughts on this unique entry from Toho's cinematic roster - and why it may not be remembered in the same manner as other tokusatsu films. Everything from Joseph Cotten's multiple costume changes to "The Joker" and his "Batmen" to the (in)famous gryphon kaiju that is, well, it's something - nothing is off limits for our duo of daikiaju devotees.

But wait! That's not all! The tandem also discusses a ton of toy news from Mondo and Max Toy Co. (among others), their own weekly pick-ups which include some great Godzilland finds and Jay's return to X-Plus, and Jake's recent viewing of The Black Demon (2023).

YHS on Monster Island takes a look at the pioneering tokusatsu show, 1966's Ultra Q, and ranks its top ten offerings. Tsuburaya's initial entry into the Ultra series kickstarted a tokusatsu boom that would take over Japanese airwaves only a few years later, giving way to the iconic Ultraman, Ultraseven, and many more. But this unique and ground-breaking series gave fans of kaiju, seijin, and just flat out good storytelling some memorable episodes, characters, and - of course- monsters.

IDW comic artist, JOHN YURCABA IV (Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors - All Hail the King!), and beloved kaiju influencer and toy aficionado, RYAN WILHELM (Collect All Monsters, YHS on Monster Island), join JAY KEY for another edition of MONSTER ISLAND LIVE!

This week's YHS on Monster Island is a free-form discussion on a litany of topics - from the MonsterVerse to Marusan, Crazy Tsunami to crazy combining robot toys. Nothing is off limits as Jake and Jay go through what they've been watching, what they've been buying, and what they think on recent news items.

What better way to celebrate Mother's Day than with a film about the greatest monster mama of them all?

This installment of YHS on Monster Island is jam-packed with kaiju goodness, including a full review of the 1961 British-Irish-American co-production, Gorgo. Jake and Jay discuss suit design, who is actually the real protagonist, and if this movie had the most powerful net in the history of cinema! On top of reviewing the "Big G" - okay, the other "Big G" - okay, the third "Big G", the duo talk pick-ups including some Harryhausen awesomeness and more BioGojis, Jay's recent obscure tokusatsu binge into the worlds of Fireman, Mirrorman, and Spectreman, why it's hard to rank Ultra Q episodes, a host of toy reveals from Super Festival 85 and the 6th Mandarake Creative Sofubi Rally, Gamera: Rebirth giving us a tentative release date and a teaser image of Zigra, animal rights, and the first (and only) edition of Gorgo Movie Posters from Around the World!

It's a wild and chaotic episode, no doubt...so enjoy!

YHS on Monster Island returns and, like everyone else on the internet, they have to share their opinions on the controversial teaser trailer that dropped for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. In addition, our hosts discuss the internet gem that is Quazies, some cool new releases from Bandai, updates on Titanic Creations' Gorgo stretch goals, and a big announcement regarding a Dallas-area event called Kaiju Go! As always, Jake and Jay will share their weekly kaiju collectible pick-ups!

YHS on Monster Island returns to review the recently acquired South Korean film, Space Monster Wangmagwi…and it’s a doozy! Not only do we get a creepy monster (and not in the horror film “creepy” way), we witness the kaiju genre’s first inner ear canal urination scene, terrible paper mâché monster feet, and the very best in retro sci-fi costuming! Can Jay’s compliment sandwich do enough to salvage Wangmagwi’s reputation or will Jake toss it back into the lost and (not) found drawer in the Korean film archive?

But it’s not just the review on this week’s episode, the duo goes over recently pick-ups ranging from Marmit to Marusan to Trendmasters - and includes a Top 10 Wishlist acquisition! Other quick hitters include Jay’s hatred for Gyaos, the greatness of Sinbad, and the struggle of making a top 10 episode list for Ultra Q.

With Jake vacationing in Seatopia, Jay has invited kaiju expert and toy collector extraordinaire, Ryan Wilhelm of Dallas Vintage Toys, to the island to discuss the recently released Gamera: Rebirth trailer, new pre-orders and releases from Mondo, Titanic Creations, Bandai, Marusan, Bullmark, and more, plus show off some really rockin' kaiju collectible pick-ups!

YHS on Monster Island returns and takes a look at the polarizing 2004 entry and finale of the Millennium series, Godzilla: Final Wars...and what better way to do that than have "The Tattooed Titan of Tokusatsu" Jacob Walsh reveal his Top 10 kaiju designs (or, more accurately, re-designs)? Our host minces no words as he discusses what went right, wrong...and very wrong...with the likes of Keizer Ghidorah, Anguirus, Monster X, and the entire Final Wars kaiju roster.

On top of reviewing the film, Jacob and Jay touch on some recent toy news from Marusan, Star Ace/X-Plus, and compare the upcoming wacky Hedorah releases from Medicom Toy x Akashic Records and Swimmy Design Lab. Jay also provides a recap of Toku Toy Town's weekend at Retro Expo and his run-in with a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer! Of course, it wouldn't be YHS on Monster Island without weekly pick-ups...and though it's a light week on that front, it doesn't stop our dynamic duo of daikaiju devotees from detouring on topics such as Jay's fear of Harryhausen collecting and Super Mario Bros. toys.
