The Middle East is as close to the outbreak of a major regional war as it has been in many years. Biden, Harris, and both the Democratic and Republican Parties are fueling the fire.
On Strike speaks with Palestinian American Susan Abulhawa about the explosive situation in the Middle East, the ongoing genocidal war on Gaza, and what working people need to do to prevent a wider war.

We urgently need to build the antiwar movement, have the strongest possible protests at the DNC, and organize rank-and-file union members to bring resolutions calling for the labor movement to reject both Harris and Trump and endorse Jill Stein’s pro-worker, anti-war campaign.

In what is shaping up to be THE most vacuous U.S. Presidential campaign in our lifetimes, Kamala Harris and now her Vice Presidential pick Tim Walz are running as living cardboard cutouts–with no clear positions on things like the $15 minimum wage, Medicare for All, free college education or ANY of the other demands that dominated the past two presidential cycles because of the Bernie Sanders primary campaigns.
All eyes here in the United States are on the American Presidential election, but fifty countries are hosting major elections in 2024. Britain, France, Taiwan and India are among the countries that have already had theirs.
This week, On Strike is joined by James Kerr, a London-based English teacher, the Lewisham Branch secretary of the British National Education Union (NEU), a member of the NEU National Executive, and a socialist.
Watch now to hear a socialist, working-class analysis from James Kerr and Kshama Sawant of the results of the British election, and what’s next for working people.

In the U.K. elections, we saw the Tories, the conservative party, lose humiliatingly but expectedly after 14 years in power, putting the British Labor Party at the helm of a country in crisis. The election was far less of a vote of confidence in the Labor Party and its leader, Keir Starmer than it was a vote against the Tories - a throw-the-bums-out anti-incumbency mood. In fact, this was the lowest turnout election in Britain in more than a century.
We also saw a landslide election of Jeremy Corbyn as an independent Left candidate, after Starmer’s wing of the Labor Party undemocratically blocked him from running as a Labor candidate. Corbyn’s position against the Israeli state’s genocidal war on Gaza undoubtedly played a role in his decisive win.
What should workers conclude from the Tories’ loss and Corbyn’s victory? And what will actually be needed to build a new party, and to strengthen and connect our movements internationally? Watch now!
WATCH - socialist & former Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant WARNS Seattle Democrats to stop their planned, shameful attack on the historic minimum wage victory won by her office and the 15 NOW movement ten years ago, at a press conference yesterday alongside workers, socialists, and union members.
The ongoing chaos of the US political system was heightened on Monday by the spectacle of Teamster President Sean O’Brien speaking at the Republican National Convention – the first Teamster President ever to do so – demonstrating the dramatic extent to which Biden and the Democrats have lost authority through their sellouts of working people. For decades, top labor leaders like O’Brien have provided cover for the Democrats’ betrayals, while pumping hundreds of millions of union workers’ money into Democratic Party campaigns. Now, O’Brien is sucking up to Trump and Republicans in a desperate attempt to escape the Democrats’ sinking ship, to which other labor leaders have already tied themselves.
Mental health has spiraled into a nationwide crisis, especially for young people.
A crisis has engulfed the Democratic Party following the train wreck of the Biden-Trump presidential debate, and Biden's catastrophic performance.
