August 24, 1995 - Microsoft releases the highly anticipated Windows 95
Kicking off one of the largest product launches in technology history, Microsoft releases the highly anticipated Windows 95. More than one million copies will be sold in the first four days of its release. Accompanied by an extensive marketing campaign, Windows 95 introduced numerous functions and features, such as the taskbar, notification area, and the "Start" button.
Windows 95 merged Microsoft's formerly separate MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows product and featured significant improvements over its predecessor, most notably in the graphical user interface (GUI) and its simplified "plug-and-play" features
