In the final show a miscellaneous melange of between-holiday mutts are on offer this week as the team considers Galveston, from the maker of True Detective, the family-moves-to-a-haunted-house horror Malicious, the intentionally offensive An Evening with Beverly Luff Lynn, and the WWII drama Hurricane, along with the TV shows, The Rookie, You, and Charmed, and finally some horror revivals, classic Halloween, The Fog, Sisters, and the 3-D classic from the '60s, The Mask. So long and thanks for all the fish.

Braving shivers and tremors, the intrepid reviewers take stock of a number of new horror films, and then revisit some of their favorites. Things kick off with the latest Halloween, with Jamie Lee Curtis, followed by Down a Dark Hall and I Still See You for teens, and the gory Netflix film, Apostle, plus revivals of The Shining, and others. After an interlude about the new Robin Wood book on the horror film [https://www.wsupress.wayne.edu/books/detail/robin-wood-horror-film], the team transitions to considerations of their favorite horrors, ranging from The Exorcist to The Brood. Halloween III: Season of the Witch, anyone?

This week, the team take an accounting of First Man, the Neil Armstrong biopic with Ryan Gosling, Kyle Chandler, and Corey Stoll, and Bad Times at the El Royale, a crime thriller staring Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Bridges. On the art house side of films, there are: the African film I Am Not A Witch; and Hal, the documentary about the late director Hal Ashby. For revivals there are a few Halloween selections, including Vincent Price in The Last Man on Earth and Dana Andrews in Curse of the Demon, plus Fellini’s I vitelloni. DVDs include the horror film He's Out There and Arizona, a black comedy set in the dark days of the housing collapse.

The big autumn films have arrived, and kick off with A Star is Born, with Lady Gaga. Also on hand are: The Children Act, a courtroom drama with Emma Thompson; the bizarre TheHealer; the documentary Studio 54; There are also revivals of Barbara Loden’s Wanda from 1970, two Dario Argentos (Deep Red and The Bird with the Chrystal Plumage), and Fritz Lang’s The Woman in the Window. And on DVD, Eighth Grade, Hotel Artemis, Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot, and the TV show Killing Eve.

There is a focus on women this week the team looks at: Collette, a biopic about the great French writer; Jane Fonda: a Life in Five Acts, a profile of the actress; and also revivals of Barbara Loden’s Wanda, American Psycho, Charles Burnett’s Killer of Sheep and Dario Argento’s The Bird with the Crystal Plumage; and on DVD this week, Debra Granik’s Leave No Trace. Finally, there is a brief discussion of the new book Robin Wood on the Horror Film.

This week the team looks at the kids film The House with a Clock in its Walls along with Love, Gilda, a  documentary about Saturday Night Live’s Radner, the new Nicholas Cage extravaganza Mandy, and revivals of the documentary essay film Atomic Cafe and Fritz Lang’s early American film You and Me.

There is a lot of film to cover this week, kicking off with The Nun, the prequel to the popular Conjuring horror series.  Also on hand are: The Predator, a remake of the action film; Peppermint, the revenge tale staring Jennifer Garner; and Final Score, which is “Die Hard in a soccer stadium”; in a different mood, isThe Worlds of Ursula Le Guin, a documentary about the late author, and A Simple Favor, a thriller starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. Destination Wedding is a comedy staring Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder. On television there is Kidding, with Jim Carrey, and The Bad Seed, Rob Lowe’s Lifetime Channel remake of the classic ’50s thriller. Among revivals are The Smallest Show on Earth, Basil Dearden’s Ealing-style comedy with Peter Sellers, and Andrei Tarkovsky’s Andre Rublev.

The horror season is almost upon us, and this week we lead off with the regional horror-comedy Blood Fest. Also on hand is the family drama We the Animals. For television choices, Jack Ryan on Amazon is given consideration. Among the many revivals this week, we highlight Sweet Sweetback’s Badass Song, Peter Watkins’s Punishment Park, and the Oregon-set Sometimes A Great Notion, with Paul Newman. And Ocean's 8 is out on DVD soon. On the Aisle is celebrating its 300th episode in a few weeks, at which point we will stage a very special episode.

As summer ends, the team starts out this week with what is one of the worst films of the season, the puppet noir Happy Time Murders. This is followed by the intriguing British suspense film about a young woman’s awakening, called Beast; a Netflix teenager rom-com To All the Boys I've Loved Before; the mother-bear-defending-her-kids-heist-film Breaking In; and on TV, Safe, the eight-part mystery created by Harlan Coben, starring Michael C. Hall doing a British accent. On DVD we cover the premier horror film of the year, Hereditary, and the latest lost-at-sea drama, Adrift.
