‘On the Mat’ pays tribute to UNI legend Bill Nelson this week This week’s edition of ‘On the Mat’ will air on Wednesday, October 25 at 5 p.m. Central. The entire show is dedicated to the life and legacy of wrestling icon Bill Nelson who passed away on September 23, 2017. Nelson was an NCAA champion for the University of Northern Iowa in 1947, 1949, and 1950. He was also a member of the UNI’s 1950 NCAA championships team—the only Division I NCAA championship in school history.
