COVID brought about many crazy ideas. For Johan, he decided to ordain the Porsche 996-generation 911 the “next classic 911” and make road-going, all-purpose safari Porsche’s out of them. Pretty wild! Besides his endeavours with Safariprojek, he’s also had an itch for racing his whole life. Currently, he’s satisfying the desire by racing Dakar trucks. He is doing it all!

A name that doesn’t need introducing in the South African racing scene, and a name you would have heard a lot about over the past weekend at Simola Hillclimb, racing with his B19 Chevron and heavily-modified GTR called “Sheriff”. His family is well-known in the mining industry, but also for their racing, with Franco being part of a family of racers. He has stories upon stories to tell, including racing F40’s around on Italy’s mountain roads, and how he is rebuilding the very Mustang that almost caused his death.

It’s definitely not an everyday thing for a 23-year-old to be driving around in Porsche’s for a living, but that is this man’s reality. His name is Andrew Rackstraw and he’s a talented and acclaimed young racing driver from South Africa, currently making his way up the ranks in the Porsche Cup Great Britain. He started his carting journey in his early teens and has already racked up some big SA championships. This man is going places, and in this podcast I find out where.

“Ferrarista” is probably one of the words best describing Carlo Viglietti. A man that has been in and around Ferrari’s his whole life - working on them, selling them and driving them. He has had the full Maranello experience and continues to live the prancing horse dream at his workshop in Cape Town. We speak about carburetors, going around corners without traction control, and also what is wrong with Lamborghinis (obviously).

Every success story starts with a vision, just like every great car story starts with a written-off Porsche… right? Andre Bezuidenhout has experienced a lot of the world behind the wheel of a classic 911 and has raced Polo’s to F1 cars. His story about a tin of coffee is so interesting that even Petrolicious wrote about it.
