The NFL Combine produced more potential top 10 talent for Joe Schoen and the Giants to consider. The guys hop on to discuss creating a viable list for picks five and seven that the Giants would be ecstatic to draft in April. Adam was never that high on Charles Cross, and the emergence of Trevor Penning from Iowa State has him re-thinking where Big Blue could go. Is Sauce Gardner the new darling of the draft for Andy? He explains why the young Cincinnati would be perfect for Big Blue, while still resisting the temptations of Notre Dame stand out Kyle Hamilton. The official fifth-year options were also announced and the guys discuss if Dexter Lawrence is worth north of $10m for an extra season. They also cover the news of the NFL, as Calvin Ridley got hit with a 1-yaer suspension for gambling on NFL games. Is this "protecting the integrity", or oddly placed outrage?
The guys hop on with initial takeaways from the NFL combine. Kayvon Thibodeaux decided to flake most of the combine drills, and Adam asks Andy if that should be considered a red flag. More importantly, several other prospects put on a show over the weekend, in particular Georgia Bulldog Travon Walker. The guys discuss how much draft day movement prospects can see off the combine and the impact of playing at the different levels of college football on a players stock.
With the spotlight back on Free Agency, Adam and Andy finish up with a look at Mitch Trubisky and what seems to be a building and crowded market for his services. How much should the Giants be willing to spend, and is there a real world where Brian Daboll wants Mitch as his starting QB this year?
The guys dive in on the Giants offseason moves and NFL combine chatter to close out a Friday OGP! First Adam Armbrecht acknowledges he cannot be objective when it comes to Sterling Shepard, who the Giants have targeted as salary reduction/cap casualty this offseason. Along with Blake Martinez - Andy highlights how if you are an injured player looking to re-establish your value, there are upsides to losing money(in the short term). As the combine gets underway, the guys turn their attention to what could be learned from the Thursday slate of measurements and drills. Malik Willis is poised to shoot up the NFL Draft board, which can benefit Big Blue in more way than one. Plus, Adam gives you his "NFL Draft sleeper" at the wideout position in Dontario Drummond!
Fresh off Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen meeting with the press, the cuts begin. Kyle Rudolph's Giants tenure was short and sweet. Well short anyway. Devontae Booker was also let go clearing cap space for the March 16th Free Agency. As more roster moves get made one player receiving a ringing endorsement is Kadarius Toney. Both Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll spoke highly of the second year wideout, and set the tone for every player and member of the organization to enter 2022 with a clean slate. Lastly, reports have surfaced suggesting any Saquon Barkley suitors will find a steep asking price from Joe Schoen. Is the 2018 second overall pick worth a first rounder, or is the Giants GM setting a high bar ahead of potential offers?
Adam comes in talking all things New York Giants! The offseason is a series of dominos for Big Blue, and while fixing the offensive line is a top priority there are more than a few ways to accomplish that. James Bradberry is among the top names that could be moved in the weeks ahead and Adam walks down the offseason road with the March 16th Free Agency period looming. Each step taken by Joe Schoen will alter how the Giants progress in the rebuild, and shift draft day needs and decision making for Big Blue
Adam and Andy hop in to talk about Daniel Jones and the 4th year QB's prospects this season. The hosts believe he will be afforded every opportunity to succeed under center, but will Joe Schoen look to bring in more than a journey QB? The guys run through the high priced trade market that the Giants should not play in, the veteran free agents who could steal the job from Jones, and the potential "re-setting" of the franchise timeline with a rookie in the NFL Draft
Adam and Andy discuss the latest interview with Joe Schoen as the new GM lays out his vision for the offseason. Big Blue need cap room, and it is not as simple as cutting big contracts. For every players moved, a position must be filled. The guys cover how much money needs to be allocated for the draft, some obvious cut candidates this offseason, and if big moves can be made to part ways with bad Dave Gettleman deals.
The guys hope on the discuss(argue) over what to do with Saquon Barkley. It is a rare rant driven discussion in which Adam believes the $7.2m in cap space and additional draft capitol is reason enough to move on from the Dave Gettleman darling. Andy offers a view different reasons to retaining the dynamic playmaker, chief among them - providing fourth year QB Daniel Jones a weapon for his evaluation process. It ultimately comes down to the perspective of rebuilding for the future or chasing symbolic wins.
Todd McShay has the Giants grabbing a defensive talent with the fifth pick, and reaching for an offensive lineman at seven. The guys discuss top of the draft strategy and if the Giants can afford to "wait" on key positions of need. While Andrew Thomas picked up a PFF top 101 honor, he also another punch in the frequent ankle surgery card. Adam and Andy discuss the young tackles health, and how far he has come in just two short seasons. They also break down the high end QB talent that could be on the market, and if the Giants can benefit in a "facilitator" role.
Adam and Andy are on to debate the undefinable, what makes a QB Hall fo Fame worthy? While Andy provides a compelling case around Matt Stafford, using Eli Manning as a comparison. Adam wonders why the media is encapsulating his career three or four years before it ends? Adam then brings the debate closer to home, as the offseason looms and Saquon Barkley remains a Giant. Simply put, Adam sees a mid round pick as more than enough reason to move on from the running back, meanwhile Andy pushes back on th equality of replacement and offers an absurd devil's bargain for Adam to choose.
