Courtney Granville has several connections to our one goal. The first is very close to home.

Courtney's mother Eileen was a focused and determined individual who lived a unique life - her cancer journey was no exception. In order to honor this amazing woman’s legacy, we named our summer internship program after her.

As a nurse practitioner at The James Cancer Hospital, Amber Holbrook makes a daily impact in her patients’ lives. 

While the day she graduated from nursing school was certainly an important day, it’s what happened just six days earlier that’s had the most profound effect on her life.

Amber has been a Pelotonia participant since 2016 with Team Buckeye. On her rider profile, she features an important photo of herself and her mother Barbara. Next to it, her bio reads: “Always teaching a lesson, my mom taught us how to look and see life rather than see loss.”

Amber talks about the unique and beautiful way she chooses to honor her mother’s life.

Jyl Marazon is a wife, mother of two wonderful kids and a cancer survivor.

Two years after her first ride, Pelotonia became even more personal as she embarked on her own cancer journey. Jyl has an amazing support system and wears a small reminder of that on her wrist every day. But, it’s more than just a bracelet.

Pelotonia’s annual ride weekend is an experience unlike any other. There are thousands who come out to celebrate, ride, volunteer or cheer. This is all done to celebrate our community’s impact on cancer research.

Every year, more than three thousand volunteers descend on Pelotonia weekend and quite literally make our event possible.

Whether it’s making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or mixing gallons and gallons of Gatorade, each and every volunteer plays a vitally important role in our mission to end cancer. 

Bill and Monda Deweese are two of those volunteers. We’ll start with them back in 2009 and what attracted them to donate their time to Pelotonia in the first place.

The Pelotonia Fellowship Program helps fund young scientists who are pursuing a career in cancer research.

Since the program’s start in 2010, the Fellowship Program has awarded over 522 student fellowships.

One of those in 2015 was Morgan Schrock Twehues - little did she know that her 4-year-old daughter would bring a whole new purpose to her work.

Though not all those who have been touched by cancer are still with us, their courageous spirit lives on within their loved ones. That’s something that cancer will never be able to touch.

This is the case with David Schniadt - his driven, magnetic and fun-loving personality thrives through his family today, but in a special way through his young son Cal.
