Episode 7 of One Last Breath has your hosts discussing the debut album by crunk-core, screamo, electronicore (and really any other core you can think of) 2-piece: I Set My Friends On Fire. With their debut titled “You Can’t Spell Slaughter Without Laughter”, the band charted new territory, with an amalgamation of numerous genres that beforehand seemed like oil and water. Upon its release, it was panned by virtually every critic imaginable, along with most fans of music; especially metalheads. It became the butt of the joke when people would make fun of emo/scene culture. It really only found it’s footing in that culture, and grew to be considered a seminal album of the late 2000’s scene. Episode 5: Father of All…-Green Day

Episode 5 of One Last Breath has your hosts Austin and Alex covering the thirteenth and most recent album by Green Day: Father of All…(Motherfuckers). This release was destined to be a disaster from the start with a promotional billboard stating: no features, no Swedish songwriters, no trap beats, 100% pure uncut rock. The music contained on the album proved to be as out of touch as the billboard, being mostly panned by critics and long time fans of the band; with most being turned off by the juvenile lyrics, bland and uninspired writing and abandonment of Green Day’s signature pop punk sound for a garage rock revival vibe (15 years after garage rock revival stopped being cool). Does this album deserve One Last Breath? Or does it need to stay in the annals of bad music?

In the 4th episode of One Last Breath, your hosts Austin and Alex touch on the “divisive” side of music for the first time. Both hosts grew up on Linkin Park, and remember the rollout of this album vividly. Although mostly received very positively by critics, the fan reaction was very split. Some fans appreciated the maturity of Linkin Parks sound along with the ambitious subject matter of the album. A lot of the other fans were just wanting the band to write another Hybrid Theory. Tune in to see if time was kind to this album, or if it was a large misstep in a legendary bands career.

Episode 3: Attila- Self Titled (1970)

In episode 3 of One Last Breath, your hosts Austin and Alex cover one of the classic examples of “Worst Albums Ever” discussion. No we’re not talking about the metalcore band, we’re talking about the 2-piece proto-metal outfit, famously featuring a young Billy Joel. Not even containing a guitar, the album instead uses an organ to lead every song. The album was largely ignored by most upon release, and those that did listen had nothing positive to say about it, with one critic even calling it the worst album released in the history of rock and roll. As time passed and Billy Joel’s solo career flourished, the album was largely relegated to obscurity. Tune in to find out if your hosts believe Atilla should remain in obscurity, or if it deserves one last breath as an overlooked moment in metal history.

Coming off the heels of their well received debut “The Drug In Me Is You”, the band infamously implemented elements of rap, electronica, and even country to their already established sound. The unlikely mixing of genres did not fare well with many critics or fans of the band.
