In this episode we do a deep dive into the somewhat mysterious and sometimes controversial topic of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. We talk about the actual diagnostic criteria, the standards used to make this diagnosis, and the options available for treatment. We also talk about what PTSD is NOT - and how to tell the difference between normal, healthy trauma response and a disordered pattern of coping with a trauma that might lead to actual PTSD. -Trigger Warning: - In this episode we talk frankly and openly about traumatic experiences, including sexual assault, rape, and combat.
In this by-request episode I talk about some of the practical and theoretical things I wish I had understood better earlier in my career. For anyone starting out in a new field, it is vital to get a chance to learn from the veterans in that field, but psychotherapy is an insular field and we don't often get the chance for these kinds of conversations. This episode hopes to fix just a little bit of that.
In this episode I share some stories about effective self-care, and discuss the difference between doing what 'should' make us feel good about ourselves, vs. what actually does make us feel good. I talk about the value of meaning and purpose, and how it all connects to produce genuine happiness.
Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers and mothers-to-be out there! In this episode I talk a little about some of the fantastic mothers in my own life, as well as discuss some of the mental health challenges and struggles that Mothers tend to be more susceptible too. Thank you for listening in! Please send you feedback and ideas for future episodes to [email protected]!
Welcome to the very first episode of One More Think! In this episode I say a few words about myself, who I am, and my qualifications to host a podcast about mental health. I also chat for a bit about some of the secrets of good self care, and the dangers of poor boundaries that allow mission creep to overload us with stress. Thanks for joining me and for taking a chance on this podcast. I truly look forward to your feedback and suggestions about how I can improve, and especially your recommendations for topics you would like to hear a psychotherapist cover in closer detail.
