October 07, 2020Mike Dorbyk of Monarch Tavern and Bracebridge HallIn Episode Three I sit down with Mike Dorbyk in the lovely Bracebridge Hall Music and Events Space to talk all things live music. Mike is the owner of Bracebridge Hall and also the famous Monarch Tavern in Toronto's Little Italy hood, one of the cities oldest and most revered bars. Mike has been ingrained in the Toronto music scene for over 20 years having been an underground house promoter at the turn of the millennium on Queen Street West, a set up which lasted for 12 years before getting involved with The Monarch Tavern and most recently setting up Bracebridge Hall in May 2019.We talked about his love for going to shows at the CNE, his very fortunate Glastonbury experience, why he doesn't like amps turned up too high and the challenges that have faced the live music and events scene this year. Big thanks to Mike for his time and generosity. You can follow The Monarch Tavern @ http://www.instagram.com/monarchtavern and Bracebridge Hall @ http://www.instagram.com/bracebridgehall for all their updates, and if you're in either area you can always pop in for a pinthttp:www.instagram.com/onermoretunepodcast Cheers!Podcast Music by Slim GoodyPodcast Artwork and Audio Editing by Peter DoyleProduced by Ian ByrneSupport the show...more1h 11minPlay
September 11, 2020Jeff Cohen of The Legendary Horseshoe TavernIn episode two I sit down in an empty Horseshoe Tavern on Queen Street in Toronto with Horseshoe owner Jeff CohenAside from owning one of the most storied bars/venues in Toronto, Jeff also owns another wonderful venue, Lee's Palace and runs Collective Concerts in the city too. Apart from his current roles Jeff has been a talent buyer, a radio show host, an agent, a festival founder, artistic director, he's worked at labels and I'm sure a whole lot more in between.I was immediately drawn in by his energy and the passion for music that oozes from him and kinda just sat back and let him loose, and we didn't get to talk about a lot of stuff that I wanted to so stay tuned for Jeff part 2!In the meantime, the Horseshoe is starting their live streaming Horseshoe Hootenany series this Saturday Sept 12th with a performance by The Sadies so if you're reading this before Saturday you can get your tickets here. Otherwise give the Horseshoe a follow on their social to stay in the loop with what they have coming up, and if you're in the area you can always just pop in for a pint.http://facebook.com/horseshoetavernhttp:/www./twitter.com/horseshoetavernhttp://www.instagram.com/horseshoetavernNOTE: The audio on this one is ropey so apologies to all the sensitive ears out there, I do promise to fix the audio issues for the next onePodcast Music by Slim GoodyPodcast Artwork by Peter DoyleProduced by Ian ByrneSupport the show...more1h 9minPlay
