Do you let employees opt out of newsletters and emails? Probably not. And you should. We have endless choices about the content we subscribe to in our personal lives but when we get to work, it's shoved down our throats. Consider empowering your employees to make their own choices and you might be surprised at the results.

Too many of us deny the pleasure of failure by avoiding the word and convincing ourselves that something didn't fail, when in fact it did. And that's ok! The magic is in the failure and the learning is in the growth.

How much time do you take personalizing your communication for employees? It's easy to make magic when you ask the right questions, like "do you prefer bagels or bacon?"

Have you ever been asked to make something pretty at your job? Have you ever rolled your eyes at this request? We should get excited when someone in our workplace approaches us for help.

Being connected to people you don’t know doesn’t add value to your LinkedIn experience and it certainly doesn’t add value to your community. It doesn't matter how many connections you have if none of them are meaningful. To combat this mess, I developed a litmus test for LinkedIn. Yes,this is a soapbox, a hot take, and a hill I’m willing to die on.

Everyone has had a bad boss. And no one has ever been one. It seems likely that if we ARE a terrible boss, we may never know it. Even with feedback from employees or co-workers, our minds are very good at discounting criticism. So I have a challenge for all of us.

Let's assume we are all bad leaders.

The internal comms industry doesn't need to be competitive with itself. We do a disservice every time we are focused on what our perceived competition is doing that is taking business away from us.
