Making Social and Emotional Learning a Priority Is a Proactive Response to Behavior

Mary Anne and I spoke several months ago about a very important topic- social-emotional learning. Our conversation was very special to me, as Mary Anne shares her raw uncensored responses to teaching, learning, and her very first steps into the world of being a teacherpreneur. (I chose to do very little editing. Mary Anne worked very hard to move past the language barrier. But I love her sweet way of trying to figure out exactly what she wants to say. She is endearing in her raw vulnerability. I know you will find this to be true.) Mary Anne creates resources on TpT that focus on the social and emotional aspects of learning. She has a true heart for this topic, and I feel it is the perfect time to share this with you during our series on behavior.

Focusing on the importance and the value of social-emotional learning is the key to reaching children where they are and seeing the whole child. When teachers are able to see children, baggage and all, we are better equipped to handle the behavior that may be a result of deeply upsetting circumstances. First Week Activities for Back-to-School

Now if getting ready for school was really as easy as listening to 5 podcasts life as an educator would be so much better! Let's get real. You and I both know it isn't. We know that it takes more than the time given us to get everything all set. Most teachers I know have to go back weeks before school actually begins. It's a lot to ask, and we are often not thanked for doing it. So I want to say on behalf of children across the world- THANK YOU! Thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to excellence. Even if you do it to save your own sanity, THANK YOU! You continue to make a difference in the lives of others.

This week’s episode is all about the first week of school. I know for me planning for the first week was always the last thing I had the chance to do with all the classroom set up, organizing for open house, and fun filled meetings. So by the end of the week we went back, I was finally ready to plan! Talk about exhausting.
