This episode looks at Colossians 3:9, “Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices.” The old self is dead, so why would we still walk in sin? We ask God to kill the lingering corruption in us.

This episode looks at Colossians 3:8, “But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.” We have been made new, so we need to stop living out of our old selves. May God grant us the grace to do so.

This episode looks at Colossians 3:7, “In these you too once walked, when you were living in them.” We used to live a certain way, but God has decisively changed our lives. We may still fall into sin, but our way of life has been radically transformed. Praise God, and may he complete what he started!

This episode looks at Colossians 3:6, “On account of these the wrath of God is coming.” The evil in our hearts brings the wrath of God. Jesus paid for that wrath, but we ask for God to finish the job by purging the remaining evil desires from our hearts.

This episode looks at Colossians 3:5, “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.” In light of being raised with Christ and seeking the things where he is, we should put to death the earthly things in us. This starts at the heart level with our desires. May God give us grace to put wrongful desires to death.

This episode looks at Colossians 3:4, “When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” We get tastes of the joy and glory of our new life in Christ through the sanctification process. However, we know that this new life is tucked away safely with Christ, and when he returns we will enjoy that life forevermore. May it come quickly, we pray.

This episode looks at Colossians 3:3, “For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” Through our union with Christ, we are tucked away with him in heaven spiritually. The world cannot assail us and tear us from him. We rejoice at this truth, and we ask for grace to live in a fitting way, with our mind connected to the things where the head of our body is located.

This episode looks at Colossians 3:2, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” We want to be so heavenly minded that we are of a true, earthly good. May it be so.

This episode looks at Colossians 3:1, “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” We have been raised with Christ (Colossians 2:12), so we should seek first his kingdom and turn our eyes away from both earthly problems and solutions.

This episode looks at Psalm 9:20, “Put them in fear, O LORD! Let the nations know that they are but men! Selah.” When we (or others) forget God and elevate ourselves into that position, we can actually pray that God would terrify us into remembering who we are and our need for him. May God use “rock bottom” as a means of turning us back to him whenever we turn away.
