This episode looks at Psalm 9:9, “The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.” God looks out for those who face injustice here on earth. Jesus came to earth, faced the ultimate injustice in order to forgive sinners, and now provides us refuge through the storms of life.

This episode looks at Psalm 9:8, “and he judges the world with righteousness; he judges the peoples with uprightness.” God executes judgment on the entire world with complete fairness. This should bring comfort to those found in the blood of Jesus and conviction to those who are not washed clean by that blood.

This episode looks at Psalm 9:7, “But the LORD sits enthroned forever; he has established his throne for justice.” The enemies have perished because our just God sits on the throne, and we can face injustice today with courage because we know that God still sits on the throne of heaven.

This episode looks at Psalm 9:6, “The enemy came to an end in everlasting ruins; their cities you rooted out; the very memory of them has perished.” Like the flood, God obliterates wickedness. Therefore, we can have hope for him doing so in the future, and we can give thanks in the present for how he does it now in glimpses. We also know that any wickedness he allows to persist will only be for our good and his ultimate glory.

This episode looks at Psalm 9:5, “You have rebuked the nations; you have made the wicked perish; you have blotted out their name forever and ever.” God is patient with the rebel, but ultimately his justice will be satisfied. We pray that both here on earth and for eternity the name of the wicked will rot and be blotted out. For us, we pray that our name would be attached to the name above all names—Jesus.

This episode looks at Psalm 9:4, “For you have maintained my just cause; you have sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment.” In this case, David was facing injustice, and God is on the side of those who face injustice. Either now, or for eternity, God will make all wrong things right. He does so from the throne of heaven.

This episode looks at Psalm 9:3, “When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish before your presence.” God alone brings the victory. He strengthens us, helps us, and upholds through trials and crises. This is what grounds our thanksgiving to him.

This episode looks at Psalm 9:2, “I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.” The Christian life is a joy-filled life. May this be true of us!

This episode looks at Psalm 9:1, “I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.” Laments cry out to God in present difficulty. Thanksgivings cry out to God about past difficulty. We need God’s help to stop and praise him with thanksgiving when he shows kindness to us.

This episode looks at Psalm 8:9, “O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” We serve a majestic God who has elevated humanity for his name’s sake. We want to live out our calling well, by his grace, for his glory.
