This week, we're playing 2 truths and a lie with the OYFN vision. Why?

Because like all metacognition tools – this is one you can just as easily use against yourself. You can twist any of these truths or the lie into a weapon to tell yourself you aren’t doing it right, that you’re a failure, that it didn’t work and you need to try something else. 

None of that is the case. It’s about rightly seeing the exercise for what it is – not a magic lamp, a compass, target and guide that you create for yourself to help give you direction in a career and lifestyle that can be fairly directionless if we don’t create our own structure for it.

The Truths:

1. It might take more than one year to create some aspects of your OYFN vision
2. Your OYFN might shift dramatically after the first 6 months (and it’s not a problem)

And the Lie:

You’ve “not made any progress” if you are in a season of famine if you did this exercise this time last year.

I will still retain BSO (both because it speaks to the thing all my businesses do - optimize people's brain space but also because I paid $2,500 for a naming company to come up with that for me almost 5 years ago and I'm never giving it up), but it will house my other projects and business ideas. One Year from Now gets to be its own living breathing creature; replete with a new domain name, instagram handle and all.

I got a little bit ranty about the W-2 this week, but not in the way you might think! We have a gross stigma around entrepreneurs having W-2 jobs or taking W-2 opportunities, but fail to recognize the positives of those situations and acknowledge that a W-2 is simply just another revenue stream. Being an entrepreneur is so much more than a job title, and your identity as an entrepreneur shouldn’t mean that you can never work a W-2 again.

This week, we talk about grief, but not the type that happens when someone dies. Growth grief is the cacophony of emotions experienced at the end of one chapter of your business. Whether you’re moving away from a partnership or embracing a new path in your entrepreneurial journey, our bodies and brains will process this change and grieve, no matter how often we claim we “don’t have time for it.” Even if the change is welcomed, space for grieving is necessary!

We experienced nature, ate 5-star meals, and learned beyond the restrictions of Zoom.
