  • Interview with Marisa Zalabak

SUCH GREAT GEMS on this show!

Marisa, from actress (and waitress) to educational psychologist and organizational change agent, she brings us concepts so useful in our everyday lives.

What a delight to find someone so aligned in our thinking yet so different in our world paths!

Marisa approaches the world and her clients, not from a place of “what’s wrong?” but from a place of exploration of what might be missing and therefore, what might be possible.

Some gems in no particular order of importance (they’re all good):

    • Culture exists within a climate and that we can change both. Look at the overall climate first.
    • Being joyful is a practice AND and outcome
    • We need to bring our humanity into the workplace
      • It’s a mistake to want to separate it. Attending to humanity is NOT anti-efficiency and does not lower productivity. Quite the opposite!
    • We need to attend to psychological safety
      • Start with strengths
    • The role of human beings is to be better at being human
    • We need to be Adaptive, Agile, and Aware of what we affect
    • It’s important to discover what our role is in any conflict
      • This is essential for leaders who just want the other (person or department) fixed

    • “How can I help you understand where you are in this constellation?”

    • Triple Bottom Line - People/Planet/Profit

  • Owning Your Influential Power

You are powerful. Noone else has had the experiences you’ve had. Noone else has lived your life.

Here’s the bottom line on this - you get to choose how you approach others. What comes out of you can serve to lift them. And in terms of the M-A-G-I-C formula, the “I” stands for Inspiration.

When you inspire someone else to act or even to think differently, you’ve demonstrated your influential power.

    Use it for good!

  • What An Aglet Can Remind Us About

It is SO easy to complain about all of the things going on and going wrong with the world right now. And that complaining does what?

It lowers your ability to be aware of, or receptive to, opportunities that may be right in front of you. Complaining might make you feel better… for a moment. And then, it’s almost like you have to do it again.

Instead, there’s another way to approach the world.

    Gratitude!

    Mindset

    Accountability

    Gratitude

    Inspiration

    Clarity

    This is your MindsetMagic!

Check out www.MindsetMagic.com - cool, right?

Yes, GRATITUDE helps you manage your day.

It helps you adjust your mindset to take on the To-Do list and turn it into a ‘Get-To-Do” list.

This episode helps you wrap your head around how gratitude serves you, from the moment you wake up!  Find the small things to be grateful for. The big ones will surprise you!

  • The Problem With WE - There’s No “I” In It!

We have a problem when a group of people (at work, at home, in the community, in politics) agree that we have a problem. Until one person takes the role of “shepherd” the problem will remain a problem.

You’ll discuss it over and over.

It’ll be the same stuff that comes up.

Until you get an accountable “I” - someone who will take responsibility for engaging others to help fix the problem.

A group of accountable “I” people, that’s when things begin to shift.

Oh, and you can nod agreement. Until you see that this starts with you, WE may still have a problem.

Be the first, be the leader, take charge and make a difference.

  • Mindset Over PMA

Mindset matters more than anything else as it is the filter for everything… EVERYTHING.

From your relationship with your family or partner to your relationship with those at work and even your relationship with Spirit, your mindset allows you to open or shut out possibilities.

And that’s different from a Positive Mental Attitude.

It’s good to have that, and you need to adjust your mindset first.

  • BEGIN BEFORE YOU’RE READY!!!

Oh my gawwwwwwddddd… the whining is unbearable!!!

    Wahhh… i can’t do that, I’m not readyyyyyy.

It’s such bulls**t. No one is ever good at something the first time out. You’ve garnered skills in other areas that you’ll apply to whatever it is.

You wobble when you learn to ride a bike. And then, with practice, you get good at it. It’s the forward momentum that keeps you upright.

So that sales call, that coaching program you meant to join, learning French or guitar or both, the things you’ve been putting off… just do them.

It’s not about being ready, it’s about being willing.

    Be deliberate.

I am going to do this thing OR I am not going to do this thing.

You can begin before you’re ready because you’re willing to begin.

Be willing and cut the bull around being ready.

  • Who’s In Charge of Your Picnic Basket?

With so much going on and so many things you could say are important, how do you decide what to do first?

Think about all of the different things that could go into a picnic basket.

Only the essentials for a picnic actually make it in the basket.

Your day is your picnic basket and you’re the one in charge of what goes into it.

    Be deliberate.

    Eliminate unessential meetings.

    Take time for you.

  • Your Valuable Values Journey

What got you here won’t get you there.

It’s an old saying, and did you ever stop to think about that.

What got you here were all of your life’s experiences up to this point.

    Now the questions are:

    1. Where is “there” - where are you heading and can you be deliberate about it?
    2. What do you need to do, to learn, or to obtain in order to get there? If you were packing for a vacation, you’d want to know where you were headed so you’d know what to pack.

    Other questions -

What mindset do you need? What old stories might you need to let go of? How much more worthy do you need to become to have what you want? (Hint: you’re worthy already, so stop thinking it’s beyond you.)

What values might you need to live into?

    Mull those over.

Get clear about where you want to be, really want to be in five years.

Look, in five years, you’ll be five years older whether you think about your direction or not. So, get deliberate about your trajectory. This is your life and you get to own it!

  • Can you DO it all? The myth of "balance"

    What “should” you be doing?

    What are you doing?

What do you really want to be doing?

We have 24 hours in each day.

    And we have choice.

This is a gentle reminder that YOU are in control.

  • Interview with Connie Jakab

Connie Jakab is a huge advocate for branching out and fighting against the status quo. I saw her speak and was enthralled as her message of mental health expands beyond the bounds of what people usually think when they hear that term.

She’s the director of community for Flourishing Life a global movement centered around wellness and she’s the senior manager of Wellness Innovate.

Connie has three books out there now, one of them called Bring Them Closer.

I’ve also seen her do a bit of hip-hop and talk about the trust and courage that comes from doing so!

From Calgary, Alberta Canada: Connie Jakab!

Key points from our amazing chat:

    • Trust comes from listening
    • Don’t try to change the person
    • Never try to change their behavior before you try to understand it
    • Courage comes from being able to trust self and others
    • Curiosity is the key to thriving
    • Bring Them Closer is her book on courage
    • Information about her certification program can be found at: Certified Flourishing Coach | Flourish in every area of your life!
