Onesies

Emily's been asking for camp and, wowee, does this episode of THE FLASH feature someone who thinks they're delivering camp. Andrew and Emily disagree, however, and so get to talk at length about bad choices, bad direction, late one season show fails, nuns, special effects, and so much more!

Will there come a day when intrepid hosts Emily and Andrew get to leave Central City, city where the corn dog was created (which they forget to discuss)? Someday, but not until they get to talk about the acting stylings of David Bruce Cassidy. Slightly less worse, they get to talk about CBS's attempts at promoting a soap star to primetime. On the same worse level, they get to talk about poor Amanda Pays. Plus, crappy video effects! Don't miss it!

It's not just a clone episode, it's a CHILDLIKE CLONE episode! Join intrepid hosts Emily and Andrew for a (not too) lengthy discussion of various tropes, principally the twin trope, but there are many others. There's also Tina reduced to unappreciated... "friend-zoned" sidekick, Julio reduced even further, and then lots of acting (or lack thereof).

Allow me to break the ice: It's another lackluster episode, which sadly gives intrepid hosts Emily and Andrew much to discuss. Including various tangents unrelated to the pat weaponized internal misogyny of network television, Julio having nothing to do but whistle, Tina having nothing to do but whine, and continued missed opportunities with the supporting cast. But Emily does get to hear Captain Cold's comic book origin! (Or at least as it relates to Mr. Freeze!) Let's kick some ice!

Emily and Andrew find a lot to critique in an episode they both generally enjoy. There's just too much rampant misogyny (overt and ingrained), bad writing, goofy writing, fun if poorly executed guest spots, cringey flirting, but also Jason Bernard's back! Ooo, but he's doing the misogyny, which is okay because it's because guest star Denise Crosby doesn't like the Flash! Ugh. Tune in!

Emily and Andrew hope in the Delorean (which Andrew mansplains about) to head ten years into THE FLASH's future--a dystopian 2001 full of future-y cars, dreadlock wigs (for Julio but still), and weird story beats. It's not a good trip to the future, and as our intrepid hosts travel time's arrow in reverse to get back from it, they've got plenty of discussion fodder. Tune in!

Future Emmy winner Bryan Cranston appears on this week's FLASH, giving our intrepid hosts, Emily and Andrew, lots to talk about in terms of growing ability and so on. They also get to talk about the MR. MOM episode, which has Barry taking care of multiple babies. Our hosts also begin leaving hints for next season's subject show this episode, so get out your Little Orphan Annie's Secret Society decoder ring....

Emily and Andrew head down to the latest magic show for the stylings of guest star Mark Hamill (getting to discuss plenty about his more and less successful choices), but get somewhat distracted by the show's first costumed villain episode when there's lots of chemistry between Barry and a guest star to discuss. Plus, good old fashioned brain teasers like why does England-born Tina know more about regional geography than a local... So many questions. Too many questions. Tune in!

For the sake of continuity in long-form actors' character work, Emily and Andrew watch a couple episodes out of airing order so they can fully capture Amanda Pays's "back nine" character development. Ha. Sadly not so much. Instead it's dream sequences, vanishing supporting players, public displays of affection, and hacky, hacky work all around. Don't miss it!

It's another bottle episode, if the bottle is a cell on death row with someone playing a sax the whole time, and Emily isn't particularly interested in hearing about the jazz. She and Andrew have an unpleasant task at hand: surveying a wanting episode with some baaaaaaaad acting, weird retro stuff, and less action than a "counting down the clock" episode should have...
