This is Destanne's first interview, her first book "Leah's Gift" will be released in 2020. Leah's Gift is an art exhibition Destanne held to commemorate Leah's life in 1996. Leah was Destanne's daughter and the exhibition was to celebrate her and her life. Leah passed away at a year and a half, a drowning. "We all know, once you have a child, that there's nothing worse than the loss of a child. It's the most devastating thing you can ever experience as a parent." Destanne's book is retrospective and combines before 1995 and after pieces of writing and painting that helped Destanne process grief. She is an artist in more than one form. Leah's gift is a gift for all of us. There is a thread that weaves through out the journey of our entire lives. She believes that if we really tap in deeply to what we're feeling we open up some parts of ourselves that have been shut down. "....through this whole process, I really learned that I had to let everything through me in whatever way it needed to come out and not hold back." Destanne shares that feeling and allowing helped her come to a new place, that the healing journey although painful and tough allowing the pain to rise and to deal with it didn't make the experience go away, nothing could ever do that, but you do get to the other side.
