Hebrews 12 begins with a triple compound inferential participle (Therefore) that only occurs here and in 1 Thessalonians 4:8. The writer is drawing the entire epistle to its conclusion dramatically as he shifts to exhortations to the reader based upon all that has come before. Endurance is the issue, and now we learn what we should be thinking of during the trials of life as we follow Jesus. If we want our lives to look like the heroes of chapter 11 who endured in their faith, we have to keep our eyes focused on Jesus (1-3), put the trials of life in the context of God’s loving mentoring (4-11), and thereby gain the strength we will need as God heals all that is broken within us.
