Over and over again scripture shows us that audacious praise leads to individual and corporate breakthrough in the Body of Christ. As we praise God in the midst of hard seasons we expect to see his kingdom impact our realities on earth. But Jesus also said, "The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed...for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you." So, while it's fitting to look for breakthrough outside ourselves, the greatest breakthrough occurs within us, and praise is the breakthrough.

During this short series on anointing we've talked about how disobedience, stemming from fear, can make the difference between a life that looks empowered and a life that looks ordinary. In this final message we look at the power of desire and the fears and failure that can come when one's desire is misaligned with God's will.

Last week we began a short series on what it takes to walk in the anointing that God empowers us with, radical obedience to God being the major marker. Today we look at the temptation to choose image and reputation over obedience and the costly outcome it has.

As we pray for God to empower you in the new year we begin a short series on the subject of anointing. Learning from the lives of King David and King Saul, we will explore what enabled one man to walk in his anointing (God's power) while the other failed to do so. Ultimately, it all hinges on obedience to God. But as we'll see today, obedience often hinges on the conflict between fear and trust.

We all know that words have power. Words build up and tear down. The Bible goes as far as to say, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." As we look to the new year and situations in our lives that, in the natural, seem hopeless, we look at how to speak life over every situation, knowing we are loved by a supernatural God.

Have you ever heard someone make a nasty comment or off-color joke and then dismiss it by saying, "I'm only joking"? Jesus said, "The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks." In other words, our words betray us, showing what we truly hold in our hearts. Fortunately, for all of us who want to change the way we speak, there's hope: we can change what's in our hearts by changing what we treasure. Here's how...
