Old habits can survive inside a life made new by Christ. Ephesians 4 traces them back to deceitful desires that pull Christians towards the darkened thinking of life without God. Yet God has already begun restoring His likeness in those He has chosen and renewed. As they learn Christ through Scripture, they can reject their former ways, practise righteousness and holiness, and forgive because God has forgiven them in Christ.

Church can feel like a Sunday event or an optional extra, but Paul describes it as the shared life of everyone Christ saves. God's grace gives Christians a new calling, then shapes them to live with humility, gentleness, patience and love. Christ has not left His people to mature alone. He gives people who proclaim the gospel and equips every member to build up His body, so the church grows in truth, service and unity. As Christians become more like Jesus, they love His church and help one another grow.

Many people want Jesus to make Himself visible before they will believe. They want proof they can see. When some Greeks ask to see Him, Jesus points to a grain of wheat that must die and bear fruit. His death gives others eternal life, and His followers must give up ruling themselves. They experience His presence by serving in His work of making disciples through the church, and the Father promises to honour them.

Jerusalem lies in ruins, the temple is destroyed, and God’s people wonder whether He has abandoned them. Psalm 74 turns their complaint into trust by remembering God’s victory at the Red Sea and His power over creation. Jesus answers their deepest fear as Emmanuel, God with us. His cross fulfils the temple’s sacrifices, and His presence does not depend on a sacred building. Until the King returns to bring justice, His people can pray honestly, worship in spirit and truth, and love their enemies.

Jerusalem faces conquest after its people turn from God, but hope rises from nearby Bethlehem, a town too small to count among Judah’s clans. God sends Jesus there as the promised shepherd king. His kingdom stays hidden from those expecting political power, yet it reaches beyond Israel to the ends of the earth. Jesus dies for rebels and spiritual exiles, bringing them home to God. Trusting His kingship means turning from rebellion, receiving forgiveness, and finding peace and security in His kingdom.

Israel was meant to draw the nations to God, but its unbelief drove people away and left Israel needing rescue. Isaiah 49 promises a servant called Israel who will bring Israel home and carry God's salvation to the nations. Jesus fulfils that promise. His authoritative ministry brought rejection and death, but the Father raised Him and showed that His service was complete rather than wasted. Because His saving light reaches beyond one nation, His people can share His good news and honour the King before whom rulers bow.

Giving can feel noble, while receiving exposes a desire for self-reliance. Paul receives the Philippians’ prison gift with joy because God provided it through their generosity, and receiving it honours what God is doing through them. Paul’s contentment does not promise personal achievement or success. Philippians 4:13 means Christ’s finished work sustains His people through plenty and hunger because their greatest needs are already met. This hope frees them to support others and gospel work with gifts God receives as pleasing worship and promises to reward, though the form is unspecified.

Trapped between Pharaoh’s army and the sea, Israel wanted the familiar misery of slavery rather than an unknown future under God. God used that dead end to expose old habits and teach His people to look to Him. God alone opened the sea and destroyed Pharaoh’s army. His rescue displayed both complete power and love. At the cross, Jesus bore sin’s punishment and defeated sin and death; because He has won, His people can wait quietly or obey clear commands.

False teaching often sounds holy because it adds strict rules to faith in Jesus. Paul tells Timothy to point people back to God’s good creation, avoid arguments over myths, and train for godliness with hope in the living God. Scripture, rather than clever arguments, is the church’s defence. Regular reading helps biblical truth move from the head to the heart. Households can read aloud, discuss honestly, admit what they do not know, and answer God in prayer.
