People expected Jesus to establish His kingdom as soon as He reached Jerusalem. Instead, He pictured Himself as a nobleman who leaves, receives a kingdom, and returns to judge. Until then, every believer holds the same trust, the gospel, and must put it to work through love and simple obedience in a hostile world. Faithful servants receive the joy of living close to their King. The inactive servant remains a servant but loses reward, while the king's enemies face judgement.

Rejecting God can look like freedom, yet the desires people choose become their masters. Romans 1 says humanity trades the Creator's glory for created things and truth for lies. God's judgement is present now, and the warning exposes universal guilt rather than one favourite target. Esther enters the king’s court under threat of death, then uses courtesy and patience to secure his commitment before naming her request. Her wisdom stands against Haman’s folly: one man’s refusal to honour him makes wealth, status and royal favour feel worthless. Idols never satisfy. The Holy Spirit turns hearts from destructive loves towards God and lifts up Christ. Christ gives His people free access to God’s throne, freeing them to speak with grace instead of defending wounded egos.

Comfort can hide suffering and the need for God. Esther first protects her position, but Mordecai warns that the palace cannot shield her from the decree against the Jews. She then accepts the risk, asks the Jews to fast, and prepares to approach the king after Mordecai points to God's purpose. Jesus goes further: He enters human suffering willingly and gives His life, grounding trust that both hardship and good remain within God's fatherly care.

A royal decree marks every Jew in Persia for death, while the king and Haman sit down to drink. Saul’s old disobedience has left consequences that Mordecai cannot undo, and the king’s lazy thinking lets Haman’s hatred become law. God quietly directs the lot that delays the planned slaughter. At the cross, Satan likewise mistakes Jesus’ death for victory, but God uses it to free His people from sin’s eternal consequences. Therefore, flee sin, think carefully, and rest in God’s unstoppable saving purpose.

Esther is not entering a harmless beauty contest. She is forcibly taken into King Ahasuerus’s harem, where wisdom and discretion help her survive a situation she cannot resist. Mordecai answers the empire’s evil differently: he saves the king’s life, receives no reward, and leaves the outcome with God. God may use one unnoticed act of obedience far beyond what anyone can see, so faith in Christ pursues good rather than defeating evil with more evil.

Gold couches and lavish wine make Persia look secure, but Queen Vashti's refusal exposes how fragile its power is. King Ahasuerus answers wounded pride with an irrevocable law meant to force honour, showing that wealth and control cannot win hearts. God's kingdom works differently. Jesus does not degrade His bride, the church, but cleanses and cherishes her through the cross. Earthly kingdoms still entice and compel, so wisdom means recognising their claims and giving the heart to Christ, the only King who truly treasures it.

After confessing their sin, Jerusalem’s restored community puts names to a solemn promise to live as God’s people. Mercy comes first. Their pledge does not earn rescue; grateful obedience follows what God has done. Jesus became poor so His people could receive eternal riches; seeing His gift strengthens generosity and makes obedience an answer to grace.

Reading Scripture makes God's character known, and grace keeps guilt from silencing prayer. Jesus' priceless life frees sinners from slavery, grounding humble, thankful and confident prayer.

Death feels unnatural because people desire life, yet no one escapes it. Colossians 3 answers death with Jesus’ physical resurrection. Their secure future with Christ rests on His conquest of sin, Satan, and death.
