A branch may stay green briefly after a storm, but without the tree it soon withers. Israel failed to bear the justice and righteousness God sought, but Jesus is the faithful vine, and God accepts His people because Jesus obeyed. Through His death, Jesus cleans His disciples once for all. The Father continues pruning them, sometimes through hard things, so they bear obedient fruit. Life and obedience come only by remaining in Jesus, and His branches cannot live as disconnected Christians.

The disciples face Jesus’ departure with confusion and fear, while Peter makes a promise he cannot keep. Jesus steadies their troubled hearts by asking them to trust Him as they trust God. He prepares a home with the Father, promises to bring His people there, and is Himself the only way, dependable truth and lasting life. His words come from the Father, and His miracles show His union with the Father. Their hope rests on Him.

With the cross less than a day away, Jesus turns His attention to His disciples. Though He is their Lord, He takes a servant's place and washes their dirty feet, exposing their pride and displaying His selfless love. The washing points beyond water. Only Jesus' sacrifice can cleanse sinners and bring them into fellowship with Him, while believers still need regular reminders of His finished work. Those who receive His humble service can no longer cling to status, but find blessing in serving one another.

Jacob’s family reaches a hopeful ending, but not because its members became good enough. Their intended harm becomes part of God’s work to save many lives. God restores this divided family through forgiveness and carries His larger promise forward through them. Joseph treats his fearful brothers kindly, then arranges for his bones to leave Egypt when God brings Israel home. The future rests on God’s faithful character, so His free forgiveness can replace pride with humble forgiveness.

A severe famine threatens Jacob’s whole family, and moving to Egypt raises fears about whether God’s promises can survive. God meets the anxious old man at Beersheba, promises to go with him, and brings his family to food, land, and reunion through Joseph. The seventy relatives entering Egypt signal that God is building the nation promised to Abraham. Joseph’s provision points to Jesus, who gives life to people unable to rescue themselves. Trusting Him means recognising that need and giving Him your life.

Joseph faces the brothers who beat and sold him, but their changed actions move him to tears rather than revenge. He sees that God used twenty-two years of suffering to preserve lives and bring a broken family together. Reconciliation grows as people acknowledge sin, truly repent and change their behaviour. God can use painful tests to shape people, while their growth affects those around them. Through Christ’s death, sinners can finally be reconciled to their true Father and share in His larger purpose.

Joseph's silver cup tests whether his brothers will abandon Benjamin. Instead, Judah offers his own life for Benjamin, showing that God's grace has turned guilt into genuine repentance. Jacob now trusts his precious son to God's mercy, while Joseph values his family above honour and costly gifts. Jesus, the promised King from Judah's family line, gives His life for guilty people. His mercy makes them holy and changes what they love.

Twenty-two years after selling Joseph into slavery, his brothers travel to Egypt for food and unknowingly bow before him. God's promise has unfolded slowly, and years of hardship have taught Joseph wisdom to seek their restoration rather than reveal himself immediately. His severe test brings hidden sin before God, making painful exposure an act of kindness that can lead towards repentance. Christ's cross answers exposed sin with forgiveness and new life, opening the way to restored fellowship with God.

Joseph rises from slavery to oversee his Egyptian master’s household, then a false accusation sends him to prison. His circumstances collapse, but God’s presence and blessing do not leave him. Hardship begins stripping away Joseph’s pride and prepares him for a purpose he cannot yet see. Those Jesus washes clean by His blood can recognise God’s undeserved grace even in hardship. True success is serving God faithfully wherever He places His people.

One fractured home holds an arrogant son, a father who plays favourites, and brothers consumed by jealousy and bitterness. In Genesis 37, Joseph reports his brothers, receives Jacob's costly robe, and shares dreams of his family bowing to him. Their failings spread pain. Yet God works through this mess to break pride, restore His people, and bring them to confess Him as their God. Because Jesus was broken for His people, God's refining work will not destroy them, so they can ask Him to expose their flaws and reshape them.
