Good Friday looks anything but good: Jesus is betrayed, arrested and killed despite His innocence. Yet He refuses retaliation, heals an enemy, and trusts His Father through darkness and injustice. His enemies seem to take His life, but Jesus freely gives it as the sacrifice for sin. God turns their goal of death into life, and His wounds bring healing for many. Because Jesus' righteousness covers sinners, they receive the full rights of God's children and can leave bitterness and darkness behind.

A child does not grow into family life alone. Baptism marks God's covenant promise and the church's responsibility to nurture faith, while public profession declares trust in Jesus and a desire to follow Him. Profession is a milestone, not proof that someone has finally arrived or has only just received salvation. Those who confess Jesus as Lord recognise their place in God's family and share fully in its rights and responsibilities because His grace reached them first.

John tells a king to repent, and loses his freedom, dignity and life. His death stands beside Jesus sending the disciples out with almost nothing, showing two costs of proclaiming God's kingdom. Jesus may demand comfort and possessions, while a hostile world may take respect, friendships, income or even life. Such losses are not strange. Jesus bought His people from slavery to sin, so costly faithfulness serves a kind Master who paid far more.

Ignoring someone in need can feel less serious than causing their pain. In Matthew 25, Jesus judges complacent neglect and identifies Himself with hungry people, strangers and prisoners whom others overlook. Jesus will not separate love for Him from love for neighbours. Yet outward kindness cannot grow from an unchanged heart. His costly love changes hearts and restores broken relationships; true faith then feeds hungry people, welcomes strangers and visits those who struggle.

Final words matter most when fear and change cloud the future. Before the cross, Jesus tells His troubled disciples that loving Him means keeping His whole teaching, not choosing only agreeable parts. He promises the Holy Spirit, who teaches, brings His words to life, and lives with those who trust and obey Him. Jesus then gives a peace the world cannot supply, grounded in forgiveness through His cross and victory over death. Because this peace comes from the Spirit rather than human stability, hardship cannot overcome it.

Arriving at a wedding without proper clothes exposes more than poor planning in Jesus’ parable. The first guests reject the king, so he opens his feast to good and bad people from the streets. Yet the unprepared guest warns that seeking God’s benefits without wanting God Himself will end in judgement. Jesus lays down His life and opens His kingdom to everyone willing to celebrate His rule. His welcome calls for joy, obedience, goodness and mercy rather than a resistant heart.

People can celebrate God’s grace yet still avoid those who most need to hear it. Grace must move outward. Paul calls for persistent, thankful prayer for others, especially for God to open doors for the good news. Wisdom takes those opportunities and leads people to Jesus instead of merely judging their lives. Gracious, worthwhile speech reflects a changed heart, while the Holy Spirit supplies courage and clear words for faithful witness to others.

Worship can shrink to songs, feelings, or religious routine. The rest of life may remain unchanged. God moves first in mercy, and worship responds by offering the whole person as a living sacrifice. This means refusing the world's patterns as God renews the mind to recognise, love, and choose His good will. As Christ becomes the centre and God the deepest treasure, changed values produce integrity, joy, and a life that displays His mercy.

Worship feels like a chore when lesser things take centre stage. Jesus drives traders from the temple because profit and crowded courts had corrupted worship and kept Gentiles from drawing near. He then identifies His risen body as the new temple, where people meet God and approach Him without fear or guilt. True worship depends on the Holy Spirit and Jesus, and it engages both heart and mind. Remembering God, loving others, and repeatedly realigning life around Jesus restore worship's true centre.

At a wedding where the wine runs out, Jesus turns water into choice wine, and His first sign begins to disclose who He is. This sign points beyond the jars to Jesus Himself. He brings new life and grace, but His teaching needs humble, obedient hearts that can change rather than hard hearts that resist Him. At the Last Supper, wine points to His blood, forgiveness, and the promised feast with Him, giving reason to release bitterness and stop chasing comfort and short-lived sin.
