Severe suffering can make God’s care feel impossible to understand. Job lives faithfully, yet loses everything while his friends wrongly insist that direct punishment proves hidden sin. God does not explain Job’s pain; He displays His wisdom and sovereign rule over creation. Jesus bears sin’s punishment and restores sinners to God, so hardship need not be read as His rejection. Faith stops negotiating for answers and instead seeks to know God, trust His presence, and walk humbly through what remains unexplained.

Claims that the church replaces Israel can fuel both confusion and hostility towards Jewish people. Jesus came first to Israel, yet its leaders rejected their King while believing outcasts entered His kingdom before them. Gentile believers do not replace faithful Jews; like wild olive branches, they are grafted into God's people, sharing the promises without pride. Christ now reigns at God's right hand, and His kingdom gathers people from every nation until He returns to rule the renewed earth forever.

Busyness can look faithful while pulling attention from what matters most. Mary sits at Jesus' feet and receives His words, while Martha's good service becomes tangled with anxiety and resentment towards her sister. Jesus does not reject service. He teaches that wise service begins by listening to Him, then shapes hard choices, care for children, and love for difficult neighbours. Because the risen Lord holds everything in His hands, His people can seek His wisdom rather than trust their own strength.

Religious devotion can hide deep hostility to Jesus. Saul travels to Damascus to imprison Christians, but Jesus stops him and turns a violent persecutor into His chosen messenger. Blinded and helpless, Saul begins to pray, obeys Jesus, receives baptism and joins the Christians he once attacked. God alone changes his hard heart, yet He sends a hesitant disciple named Ananias to heal him and help him take this public step of faith.

Trusting Jesus raises a practical question: what difference do His death and resurrection make each day? Faith joins believers to Christ and gives them a new identity, with His death counting as theirs and breaking sin’s control. This does not mean sinless perfection, but a new direction. The Holy Spirit also shares Christ’s resurrection life with them, enabling new obedience as they seek to know Jesus more deeply through Scripture, prayer and practice.

Women carried spices to Jesus’ tomb, expecting to honour a dead body. Instead, they found the stone rolled away and heard God’s messengers announce that the crucified Jesus had been raised by God. The Gospel accounts preserve different witness details while agreeing on the event at the centre of Christian faith. Without the resurrection, faith leaves people in their sins. Because Jesus conquered death, His people can leave their expectations at the cross, wait for God with patient anticipation, and tell others the good news.

Death leaves Jesus' followers numb, confused and unsure what to do. Joseph of Arimathea cannot understand the cross, yet love for Jesus moves him to ask Pilate for the body and offer his unused tomb. Jesus' resurrection gives certain hope amid grief and unanswered questions: He has conquered sin and death, and eternal life rests entirely on His work. Romans 8 says this hope is not a fifty-fifty wish for visible results. It waits patiently for Christ's return and moves His people to serve faithfully now.

Stephen’s faithful witness begins with an appointment to serve neglected widows and ends with false charges and death. Before the council, he argues that God cannot be contained in the temple and that Moses and the law point to Jesus. His accusers stone Stephen, yet he dies looking to Jesus and asking forgiveness for his killers. His death seems tragic. God uses the persecution that follows to scatter believers beyond Jerusalem, where they proclaim the gospel.

Seeing God as someone whose favour must be earned by good behaviour can deepen pain and drive people away. Jesus meets needy crowds with compassion, feeds thousands from five loaves and two fish, and walks across threatening waters, showing He is God in the flesh. His authority extends over evil, sin and Satan. At the cross, Jesus takes the judgement sinners deserve, offering forgiveness and a secure place in Him instead of a life spent earning God’s favour.

Under a starry sky, human life can feel vanishingly small. Psalm 8 traces creation's beauty to God, whose majesty stretches from the heavens to a newborn child. Yet this Creator cares for humanity, crowns people with honour, and gives them responsibility for His world. Jesus, the Son of Man, goes further: He shares human weakness, bears sin on the cross, and brings His people into God's family. The fitting response is sustained wonder at the God who creates, cares, and rescues.
