Joseph was in sales, but, found he had a passion for football and fantasy football. His product is a frame (fantasyframez.com). David Johnson of the Arizona Cardinals backs his product and the brand.

After being on the Open Roll Podcast, Joseph thought he would like to do his own podcast about fantasy football. He is 4 months in and is loving it. He is finding his podcast is being well received and downloaded. He is proud and excited. His podcast is direct and humble, they get the information right away. He does his own ads if he needs them. He likes to keep the podcast is direct and straight to the point, no “cheesiness”. There is a lot of interaction with the followers.

Joseph used Podcaster’s Paradise, same as the Open Roll Podcast did, for starting up. This program helps you get going and get the podcast off the ground. There are quite a few steps to getting it going.

Losing his dad has been a driving force to help Joseph succeed. Doing something for someone else can be very motivating.

There are so many platforms available for getting your message across (i.e. blogs, youtube, podcasts). The important thing is building that network to have people receive your message and creating a community. He is also doing Facebook Live on Sunday mornings, prior to the football games, and answers questions. You have to create value. Technology is changing how business is done.

Many small businesses and entrepreneurs are coming to Hamilton with the dream of starting their business. The Hamilton Small Business Enterprise Centre is a resource for small business owners, entrepreneurs and start-ups. They are there as a resource, a sounding board, networking, consulting, and training to get them started. They are part of the City of Hamilton Economic Development Department.

The program that Christine, from Durand Coffee, was part of, was Starter Company. A lot of the programming is driven by the Province’s funding. Guest Plumbing and Heating is another example of a company that went through this program. They helped him register his business. He wanted to have a great, community, service. He has been in business for one year, and his business is growing. This is why people come to Hamilton, for the opportunity and community.

The social media can be used by many businesses to help promote and engage. You can share, like, link. There is so much happening and you can be a part of it. The sense of community and networking is what is exciting.

Programs that are offered are, 10 Steps to Starting a Business, a free session offered Mondays and Fridays, all through the year. Topics covered are market research, how to register your business, funding, rules and regulations, and hiring staff. The Business Development series is also offered, Business Plan session, Bookkeeping and Taxation session, and a Marketing session are available (for a nominal fee). These are half-day sessions and worth the investment.

Starter Company is a program for youth, aged 18 to 29, starting a full-time business. The program is looking for entrepreneurs who are “doing it anyways”, with or without their help. They have to have that drive, the vision. They also have to be humble enough to say, “I don’t know everything.”

Just get started. Why wait? You can make a Facebook page quickly and easily. Put it together, and start promoting it. It doesn’t take much to get it started. Trying to get it perfect can be a distraction. You will always be growing and learning.

Summer Company is for young entrepreneurs, they get mentoring, experience, training and funding. This is for people in school and returning to school.

Jeff has just gotten back from winning a bronze medal at the World’s for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (masters). It is blue belts and up. Setting a goal is a good way to motivate yourself. This can motivate you to start training, be in shape and not miss a training session. Setting that deadline, forces the commitment. Everyone travelling to the World’s is a champion in their respective areas. They are used to winning.

It’s important to lead by example, showing people rather than just words, is more motivating. Be willing to do the thing you are asking others to do, in terms of competing. Work hard and push for good results. These are all good ways to work in a team. Try your best, and enjoy the journey.

Technology has changed so much over the past 10 years, to improve on the coverage of these types of events. Now, these events can be watched live, and people can experience the excitement along with the competitors. This has also lead to an increased interest in the sport.

Previously, advertising was limited to print, television, and radio. The cost wasn’t always favourable. Now, everything is at the tip of your fingers. The phone, computer, it is easy to edit, create videos, and outsource.

Many members are training to compete at the World’s tournament next year, the top 3 get their way paid for to the tournament in Los Angeles in 2017. A friendly rivalry keeps people motivated. Having a purpose and a drive.

People find that martial arts is a great, complete, workout. It is conditioning, flexibility, and coordination. It is the type of sport you can do daily, you are constantly staying healthy.

Mistakes in sports, business, and life, you learn from them. You feel the sting, you learn, and improve your skills. A successful person makes it look easy, but they have learned from their mistakes. Along the way, challenge yourself, you will have setbacks, but they help you become successful, because you learn and move forward. You only touch the “hot stove” once. When you are around like-minded people you are encouraged to improve and do well. They are humble.

Facebook is prioritizing video content currently. Live video is available to all users. This is a great way to engage with people. Facebook will prioritize video, pictures, so ensure you include these with your posts. This will ensure your content is in the feed. But all of the social media networks prioritize use. Meaning you must be using your account, you must post to be seen.

Twitter, depending on when you view it, or your followers view it, your posts could be lost to them, buried with all the other posts from the day. Be visible and use the service. You are the brand. Do not always be selling. What you are selling is the idea of you.

Instagram will show you the content they determine you will most want to see. Based on the posts you like, the site will attempt to predict what you want to see next. The best way to engage with Instagram is to be online and use the network. Use the system as it is meant to be used. Use the service and you will be rewarded.

The more likely you are to be on these networks, the more likely you are to be seeing the advertisements. What do all these networks want? They want you to use their service.
