  • How Buying a Random MacBook Changed Everything w/Wedding Photographer, Burhan Photo!

Burhan joins me on this episode of Open Shutter, a successful wedding photography business owner. He tells the story of when going to university, he needed to buy a Macbook, whose owner, was a wedding photographer. This chance encounter led Burhan to shift his photography from urban/roof topping to wedding photography. He explains how he found his own creative voice in the industry through self education and practice instead of the usual route of being a second shooter.

Burhan's other passion/career is architecture. He describes how he made the shift to wedding photography full time, a risky endeavour. He preaches to be your own mentor and to believe in your artistic and creative passions.
It's a fascinating conversation on how one stands out in a busy marketplace, how to work with clients to deliver results, and the realities of running your own business.

  • Crafting With Purpose And Intention: A Look Into GJ Verellen's Creative Process.

GJ is a Toronto based fashion and commercial photographer serving a number of clients and agencies.

He attended Toronto Metropolitan University for Fine Art during the pandemic. Finding himself isolated from his peers, he taught himself photography and lighting by simply practicing at his home everyday. His mantra of being intentional with your work and breaking down big goals into smaller projects has played a large part in his success.
I enjoyed GJ's passion and thoughtfulness as he gives simple tips on how to teach yourself lighting, how to get paid work, why it's important to pursue personal projects, and why you should let others define your work instead of yourself. His peers have called his work timeless, elegant, and elevated which is now the guiding north star for GJ's future in the industry.
