Memorial Gate in Wakayama 2020 has come and gone, and we are now in the era of "El Numero Uno" Eita as Open the Dream Gate Champion! This OTVG Weekly Update starts off with discussing the big title change as Eita defeated Naruki Doi on 8/2/2020. Case and Mike talk about the career defining victory of Eita, what we can expect from Eita's title reign and look back in hindsight at Doi's reign.

PAC defends the Open the Brave Gate Title against Akira Tozawa in this show that also features the Open the Freedom Gate defense of YAMATO vs Austin Aries, who is threatening to leave the promotion if he loses. The DG Six-Man Tag is back for 2011 as this year's edition is Blood Warriors of CIMA, Ricochet and Naruki Doi versus the first all American team of Ronin consisting on Johnny Gargano, Rich Swann and Chuck Taylor! It's a weird Mania show, but it's a fun one to recount!

It’s almost Wrestlemania 2011 time, but before DGUSA hit Atlanta, they make a stop in Mike Spears territory in Burlington, NC at the Mid-Atlantic Sportatorium on 4/1/2011 for “Open the Southern Gate!”

Before Case and Mike get into the first show of the Mania Weekend Triple Shot, they take a look at a very impactful March in the Dragon System. Ronin finally gets to go to Japan! Gabe announces both a Stable Shootout and a Breakout Challenge for “Open the Southern Gate.” Dragon Gate is gearing up for their 2011 Sumo Hall show before the earthquake and tsunami of 3/11/2011 hits Japan and changes everything. Case and Mike take you through the reporting from when it happened, including accounts from wrestlers in Japan during one of the most devastating disasters in recent history, and how it changed Dragon Gate both in 2011 and forever.

After that, they get into “Open the Southern Gate” with one of Mike’s least favorite matches in DGUSA history, the perplexing way Jon Moxley’s last weekend in DGUSA began, and the Stable Shootout and Breakout Challenge main evented by the Dream Partners match of Ricochet and PAC facing Chuck Taylor and Akira Tozawa!

The first ever Open the United Gate Champions are decided as DGUSA ends their first tripleshot at the ACE Arena in Union City, NJ for United: Finale on 1/30/2011. Before we get into that, we cover the 2010 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards and the Dragon System representatives and touch on a couple news items. 

 

Then Case and Mike get into United: Finale, a truly bizarre DGUSA show hampered by a terrible arena and weird booking. BxB Hulk vs Akira Tozawa is the stand out on the night that had an utterly baffling Homicide vs Jon Moxley No DQ match and a lot of Moxley and Reby Sky. At the end of the show, we had the World-1 team of Masato Yoshino and PAC face off with the Ronin team of Johnny Gargano and Chuck Taylor.

 

Closing out the show, we dip back into the timeline to cover the events in the Dragon System leading us up to the end of February with a PAC contra PAC match and two interesting new assistants to Blood Warriors in Japan.
