  • I'm Starting To Think I Should Run For Mayor Of New York

I'm going to say something on this episode I haven't said out loud before. I'm starting to think I should run for mayor of New York City.

I'm serious about it. And I'll tell you exactly how I'd do it, because it isn't complicated. You surround yourself with the best people you can find — people who love the city more than they love an agenda — and you become a voice for everyone, including the people with the least.

But here's what I won't do, and this is where my co-host and I don't agree. He thinks at some point we have to just tell you who not to vote for. I won't do that. I want you to get there on your own, without somebody whispering in your ear twenty four hours a day.

We disagree about something bigger too. I asked him whether this country is trying to survive its own leadership, and he told me flat out he doesn't see it that way. We went back and forth on it and ended up somewhere neither of us started.

And I put a hard question to him. Somebody crossed the border twenty five years ago. Since then he's paid taxes, raised kids, put them through college, built a business. Do we deport that man? I'll tell you his answer, and I'll tell you why I'm not sure I agree.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • The one thing I'd do first if I actually ran for that office
    • Why free bus rides don't educate a single child, and what would
    • What screening I went through five separate times that nobody does now

  • The Second Amendment Wasn't About Hunting. A Former FBI Director Explains What It Was Actually For.

I'm going to tell you something about myself that might surprise you. I don't like guns. I don't hunt. I don't have it in me to kill an animal.

And I helped arm the New York City Police Department right before, during, and after 9/11.

I'm not proud of it. It was necessary. And I still believe you need the Second Amendment in this country, and my co-host walks you through exactly why it was written in the first place. It wasn't about hunting. It wasn't about sport. Go look at what happened in 1814 and you'll understand.

But here's where I think we're going wrong. Twenty nine states now say that if you can see lightning and hear thunder, you can carry a concealed weapon. We know nothing about you except that you're not a felon. That's not the Second Amendment working. That's us not doing our jobs.

I also want to tell the young people something nobody tells you. When you apply for a serious job and we run a background check, the first place we look is your social media. Before anything else.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • What the Bill of Rights was actually built to prevent, and why 1814 proves it
    • The one thing we screened for decades ago that nobody screens for now
    • Why the cops who pick up someone in crisis have nowhere left to take them

  • I Don't Agree With Bernie Sanders On Much. He's Right About This One.

My co-host couldn't make it today, so it's just me.

A well-known talk show host went on TV this week and said the answer to school shootings is putting more armed people inside schools. More guards. More former cops like me.

I want to ask one question about that. What happened to this country that our children can't go to a classroom, or a movie theater, or a mall at Christmas, without armed people standing there?

That's not an answer. That's a band-aid. And I'll tell you what I think the real problem is, because it isn't the gun.

I also get into something I've been meaning to say for weeks. We need age limits on elected office. Nobody gets out alive, and we've got people dying in their nineties while still holding a seat.

And I open with something that surprised me. I don't agree with Bernie Sanders on much, but he's right about AI.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why putting more armed guards in schools misses the actual problem
    • What I had to do five separate times just to carry a gun for work
    • The one rule that would fix more than any new law we could pass

  • I Knew Ghislaine Maxwell. I Worked For O.J. Simpson. Here's What I Learned About People.

Tennessee tried to execute a woman twice last week. Both attempts failed. She'd been sitting on death row for thirty two years.

Tom and I spent a long time on that one, and I'll be honest with you — I've never been a proponent of the death penalty and I'm not fully comfortable with where I ended up. But Tom made a point I can't argue with. He says the standard for a capital case shouldn't be beyond a reasonable doubt. It should be beyond any doubt whatsoever. If it's on film, if there are eyewitnesses, if the DNA has you coming and going, there's no doubt.

I also tell you about some people I've known. Ghislaine Maxwell, socially, in New York. O.J. Simpson, I worked for him. Monica Lewinsky was my client during her book tour, and nobody stood up for that girl.

What I took from all of it is that people have two lives, a public one and a private one, and you have to judge both separately.

    In this episode:

    • What Tom would replace reasonable doubt with, and why
    • Why sentencing guidelines are legislated, which means they can be changed
    • Four knife attacks in a month, and what that says about the gun argument

  • New York's New Strategy: Why "Free" Is The Winning Ticket

Tom Fuentes joined me late today. I started without him, which means you get about twenty five minutes of me on my own first, and then the two of us for the rest of it.

The part I'd point you to is the Kennedy conversation. Tom ran the FBI's organized crime program and he's been working on this a long time. He walks through the Bay of Pigs, and why the CIA never forgave Kennedy for refusing to send in the Air Force. Then the back channel the Kennedy brothers opened directly to Khrushchev, and what happened inside the agency when they found out about it.

He also tells me something about Lyndon Johnson I didn't know, and I've been reading about this my whole life.

Before that I get into Mexico and the cartels, and why we'll go after Venezuela but not the people actually running a country on our border.

We get into New York, and the two words that won that election.

And we come back to where we always come back to, which is what any of this leaves for our young people.

    In this episode:

    • Why Tom thinks the assassination was set in motion before 1963
    • What Johnson rescinded the day after Dallas
    • The question I keep asking about Mexico that nobody answers

  • He Ran The FBI's Organized Crime Program. I Worked For A Colombo Capo.

Tom Fuentes ran the FBI's worldwide organized crime program. I worked security for a capo in the Colombo family. This week we put those two careers in the same room and went at the Kennedy assassination.

Tom walks it through step by step. The Bay of Pigs, and why the CIA never forgave Kennedy for it. The order he signed in October of 1963 pulling our advisors out of Vietnam, and who stood to lose trillions if that order held. What his father promised the mob to get him elected, and what happened when Bobby got the Justice Department instead.

Before that we get into COVID and what came out of the Fauci hearings. We get into guns, and the number nobody mentions when they promise you gun control.

And we come back to the same place we always do, which is what we're handing our kids.

    In this episode:

    • Why Tom thinks Kennedy signed his own death warrant
    • The twenty nine states that already have constitutional carry
    • What Lyndon Johnson did the day after the assassination

  • 70 Years Of Law Enforcement Between Us. Here's What Worries Us.

Tom Fuentes is back with me this week. He's the former Assistant Director of the FBI who ran their entire international operation, and he's exactly one day older than I am, which he'll never let me forget.

We get into Iran, and I ask him the question nobody's asking. Who briefed the president on what Iran could actually do? Because Israel had people inside that country planting explosives in pagers. Somebody should have known.

We get into Russia and Ukraine, and Tom explains why he doesn't think either side walks away from this able to save face.

We get into the FBI itself, and Tom doesn't soften it. I called what happened there bumps and grinds. He told me that's too polite.

And we get into the thing underneath all of it, which is what we're handing our young people.

    In this episode:

    • The one reason Iran doesn't fit the nuclear logic that held for fifty years
    • What a license plate reader could do in 1973, and what it took to fix it
    • Why Tom thinks our schools stopped teaching the things that matter most

No agenda. Nobody telling you who to vote for. Find us on YouTube.

  • The 51st State Of The Union Is Denial

I took a little hiatus. Now I'm back, and I want to start with an apology to our children.

My generation broke almost every institution they were supposed to believe in. The government. The media. Science. Our schools. We didn't do a good job, and I think we owe them the truth about it.

So that's what this show is. No agenda. Nobody telling you who to vote for. Just what I know after 53 years in law enforcement and a lot of years traveling and listening to people smarter than me.

Today I get into guns, and I say some things you probably haven't heard. I get into immigration and the numbers nobody reports. And I get into the cameras and the technology that are watching all of us right now.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why banning guns misses the actual problem, and what we screen for instead
    • The immigration number that's bigger than the border, and why nobody says it out loud
    • What happens when police get a tool with no controls on it... and 24 officers found out

If you want more conversations like this one, follow the show.

    Chapters:

00:00 The truth, with no agenda
00:23 Who I am and why I'm back

18:08 Nobody knows how many guns we have
21:18 The only thing a background check tells you
25:35 I asked gun owners to give something up
27:36 The border number nobody reports

31:28 Take my fingerprints. Take my DNA.
33:21 The cameras, and the 24 who abused them
     37:03 Overpopulated and undercounted
38:48 Love your children more than your politics

About Operation Truth

From the publisher's feed

I'm Lou Palumbo. I spent 53 years in law enforcement and a lot of years traveling, listening, and learning from people smarter than me.

This show is called Operation Truth because that's the…
