  • OCLF - 2021 | Jairam Ramesh on "The Light of Asia: The Poem that Defined The Buddha" In Conversation with Mandira Nayar

'The Light of Asia' is an epic poem by Sir Edwin Arnold that was first published in 1879. It is a narrative of the life and message of the Buddha. Book tries to uncover and narrate the fascinating story of this deeply consequential and compelling poem that has shaped our thinking of an ancient sage and his teachings.

The Light of Asia, by Sir Edwin Arnold, introduced the Buddha to the world. The poem captivated an Indian monk who remains an iconic personality – Swami Vivekananda. At about the same time, it deeply moved a young man in Colombo who has become famous in history as Anagarika Dharmapala. It caught the attention of an aspiring Indian lawyer in London in 1889. This man later became immortal as Mahatma Gandhi. A few years hence it impacted a teenager in Allahabad who would, in 1947, become the first Prime Minister of India-Jawaharlal Nehru. Two copies of the book adorned the bookshelves of B.R. Ambedkar, the prime architect of the Indian constitution. Weaving together literary, cultural, political and social history, this book uncovers and narrates the fascinating story of this deeply consequential and compelling poem that has shaped our thinking of an ancient sage and his teachings.”

  • OCLF - 2021 | Acharya Prashant On "Increasing relevance of wisdom literature in the modern world" In Conversation With Priyanka Sharma

The real wisdom begins with inquiry. Spirituality is all about knowing. It has nothing to do with belief systems. Keep it away from God, Goddesses. Spirituality wants to find out the truth of what we see and the one who sees. The subject and object both have to be known. Whether its believer theist, belong to the same bracket. Spiritual process in progress while doing deeply searching. Spirituality is far away from what people think in real life. Upanishads are in the form of conversation, the seeker and knowledge giver. Nobody accepts anything easily. There are arguments. Same in Geeta, where Arjun disagreed with Shri Krishna. People believe anything they have been told based on religions. Many claims are not based on facts. Superstition is very prevailing in Modern people too. We are operating in an animal way where there is no inquiry. That’s not the way of consciousness. While having a conversation, we expect a reply. The bondage has to be pushed aside. Freedom is invaluable. If you are not free, something within you will try to free yourself. Nobody can leave without peace. Death is the end of consciousness. We must have freedom of thought even if we have to pay the price because that prize carries low value than peace. Bondages are the prize you pay.

  • OCLF - 2020 | Inaugural Function Chief Guest Address by Shri Nitinji Gadkari - Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India

I congratulate the organizer for organizing such a knowledgeable event. I believe in the philosophy that Knowledge and wealth are interdependent and nothing is wasted if you used it properly.

Materialist development is ok but the importance of History, culture, and heritage is more important. Indonesia, Cambodia is still nurturing their heritage because it’s important to them. While attending the Spiritual program of Sri Sri Ravishankar Ji in Berlin I’m astonished to see several people who came there to learn about our culture and heritage and most of them were foreigners. If they are so interested then why should we lag? One of my friends Mr. Gaikwad, Chairman of BVG Group supported an Ayurvedic research center where one of my knowns was treated for cancer and her condition improved. This is the power of our Ayurvedic literature. Values-based education needs on hour. That would help us to understand our origin. It’s time we create a truly New India with our distinguished literature. When did I get to visit British Parliament one of the MP asked me questions that what is the biggest problem in India? I told them that Poverty and Illiteracy are the biggest problems in India. I asked them the counter-question what’s the biggest problem in your country i.e. in England? They told me that “Disturbance in Matrimonial Social System” as rather than getting married young people prefer “Live- in-Relationships”. I told them this is not our problem due to our culture, heritage, and literature.

  • OCLF - 2020 | Opening Interview - "Breaking Boundaries - Dance, Culture and Society"

Coincidentally I am from a political family. My granddad, Mangal Das Pakwasa, was one of the initial five Governors of India. My granddad and both my folks were significantly intrigued by expressions of the human experience thus well-known craftsmen would frequently come and perform at our home. I grew up among these craftsmen and normally grew an interest in it.

Dance is intended to honor individuals. They engage while teaching the individuals. In India, dance is viewed as a vital piece of day by day life. It sustains individuals with otherworldliness and gives social analysis. In the event that a message is portrayed straightforwardly it will be exhausting. In any case, on the off chance that they are encompassed in excellent developments, alluring ensembles, and fascinating stories, the message will be generally welcomed by the crowd. I would state the job of dance has been critical in India.

My desire is to make everybody dance. I am not cursorily telling this. Dance is so essential to an individual. Everybody ought to become familiar with a tad of dance in whatever from - society, social or old style. In Germany, expressive dance is mandatory for young men and young ladies up to standard eight. Dance suggests an equilibrium of body, comprehension of room, intensity of the body, its beauty, music, and mood. Through dance, the brain gets sensitive to a musicality. It is just common that something so indispensable should be essential for our fundamental instruction.
