As we read Scripture, we should be reading it in a way that reflects back on us, and teaches us ways that we need to change, much more than we use it to try to tell others how they should live. Paul’s letters to Timothy, written to encourage proper conduct in the church, demand that of us. As the first letter begins, Paul reminds us of a primary focus of our calling in Christ, that of love, and the purity, conscience, and faith that must accompany that love.

The book of Ruth may be small, but it is a powerful story of what faithfulness and God’s providence can accomplish in the lives of God’s people. This unique family not only shows us how God’s providence can work in one’s life, but also how it works in the grand scheme as Ruth and Boaz’s family had a long lasting legacy.

The first part of this week’s class will finish up some material from the first chapter of Revelation and the appearance of Jesus in that opening vision. Chapters 2-3 move into the specific letters written to each of the seven churches. After spending a few minutes breaking down what we will see in each letter, we spend just a few minutes looking at the first of the seven.
