The second sign in John happens because a father begged. Desperation is what drives us to ask, and we have been trained to be stubborn instead, keeping our problems to ourselves. Ask God for the desires of the heart. The next miracle may show up in someone else's life, and watching it carries us through our own.

The Samaritans believed because of a woman's testimony, then asked Jesus to stay, and he stayed two days. The second day is what turns a feeling into faithfulness. Time with him does not answer every question, but it changes a faith that depends on good feelings into one that holds when the feelings go.

Feelings are part of loving God, and feelings alone collapse when chaos arrives. A drummer with natural talent still has to learn the system. Love matures the way it does with a newborn: emotional at first, then self-sacrificial. God's will is to love him and love others in both of those ways.

The Samaritans left their work on the word of a woman most of them would not normally trust, and then said they had heard for themselves. Secondhand testimony can start faith but cannot finish it. Following Jesus means going to see, without knowing in advance what it will cost or where it leads.

Jesus told the disciples he had food they knew nothing about, meaning the will of the Father fed him. Fasting works the same way: give up something that has been taking your time and hand that space to God. Confessing Christ is the starting line, not the finish, and keeping in step with the Spirit comes after.

The magi found Jesus because they were searching, and Herod is proof that getting close brings resistance. Gold, incense, and myrrh were useless to an infant, which says something: God can take anything and put it to use later. Whoever is not looking tends not to find.

Zechariah and Elizabeth were old and childless, serving in a temple under a pagan king, in the middle of four hundred years of divine silence. That is bad by any measure, and God was already at work in it. The answer to when is unavailable. The answer to who is not, so keep praying and stay faithful.

Matthew opens with a genealogy full of people nobody would put on a family brochure, arranged in three sets of fourteen around David's name. God writes a story through messy families, including the one you came from. Reading a past without faith makes it all look bad. God is working a larger narrative through it.

A widow with one jar of oil filled every container she could borrow, and the oil ran until the jars ran out. Nobody is responsible for the multiplication, only for the obedience. Malachi says to test God in this. Bring what is actually in the house and let him do the part that is his.

Paul tells the Corinthians that sowing sparingly reaps sparingly, and that God loves a cheerful giver. There are two cycles to live in. In the scarcity cycle God supplies, we consume, we lack, and we fear. Fear is the signal that the cycle is wrong, because the God we serve is abundant.
