We don't always see or appreciate the most heroic acts... just the ones we can see or have heard of.  There are so many stories in the bible many of us don't know just because we haven't read them yet or heard of.  My hope over the next few weeks is to share with you some of the stories of the Ancient Heroes of our faith.  Tomorrow we will learn a little bit about Elijah and what great steps of faith he took.

This next Sunday as part of our rooted at the Orchard series we are going over the topic of "cost".  The question driving the sermon this week is "what is the price for discipleship?"  Jesus answers the question very clearly.  I hope you'll be encouraged by it... and challenged.

Sounds like an easy question doesn't it?
It's not as easy a question as you think.  Jesus takes a hard line on how how we handle money and how it affects our worship of him.  Tomorrow we will be taking a look at what it means to be rooted when it comes to how we view handle our treasures in this life.  It's easy to see this as a "money" issue but really it is a look at the material and immaterial things we leave here on earth and take with us to heaven.  I'm excited to share this message with you!  Hope to see you at church.

I say that because you matter here at the Orchard.  Each one of us is building into this church making it strong every Sunday.  We do all of this to "invite people to find hope and experience love through faith in Christ."  That is our vision.  I invite you to join me in inviting others to take a look at what I think the community of God really looks like.  I thank you for making Orchard one of the best churches I've ever been to here in the united states and around the world.  Again... I used to.
For a number of reasons I used to struggle with the notion of going to church on Sunday and understanding how I was spiritually growing by being part of a church, listening to the Pastor preach and the music leader sing.  13 years ago everything for me changed.  I learned some hard lessons. I'll have to share them in detail with you some time.  For now I'll say what I learned was I need you.  That's right, you.  

You see spiritual growth happens by design (you were made to grow) and under pressure (like coal becoming diamonds).  I didn't realize that our timeSunday mornings were so critical to my life until I didn't have them.  I didn't realize how important a healthy loving church was until I didn't have one.  When I set out to establish the Orchard, my hope was to create a place where people had space to grow as a believer because they wanted to.  I also wanted to create an atmosphere where people genuinely loved each other.  This means people needed to like each other. :)  I found some major leaders, honestly I should be saying God sent me major leaders because that is what happened.  These leaders invested sacrificially into the church and because of that we have a community of faith, hope and love.  

I've learned from these leaders what it looks like to sacrifice your life for the sake of others personal and corporate spiritual growth.  I invite you to make ourSunday gatherings a priority for that reason.  That reason being, we have been given a gift of a community of faith that sacrifices to love each other.  And we like each other. :)  I can't wait to share the message with you tomorrow.  Know that I think and pray for you.
