In this episode, Debra outlines several thought-provoking reasons for increasing fear levels plus 8 tips to help women face their worries and embrace labor as a personal journey of strength, connection, and empowerment. Tune in!

"Women know how to birth their babies, like their bodies know how to breathe and their hearts know how to beat. We just have to get out of its way." โAnne
Many of the words that come to mind when thinking about birth reflect the fear and medicalization perpetuated by modern society. Terms like "painful," "dangerous," and "emergency" portray childbirth as something to be endured or avoided rather than a natural process. This stems from the widespread use of interventions like induction, epidurals, and cesarean section that have stripped birth of its innate beauty, its humanity, and turned it into a clinical event, a potentially dangerous emergency. By challenging these prevalent narratives and embracing midwifery models of care, women can reclaim birth as a profound, empowering life experience rather than something to dread or "survive."
This week, we are joined by Anne Margolis, a licensed certified nurse midwife and yoga teacher with over 29 years of experience helping mothers have natural and healing birth experiences. Mindset shift and comprehensive preparation are key especially today. She advocates for a holistic, trauma-sensitive approach to childbirth that empowers women.
Tune in as Debra and Anne discuss the medicalization of childbirth and its impact on women's empowerment and pleasure, the importance of autonomy and trust in the birthing process, the role of midwives in providing emotional support and trauma-sensitive care, the power of a positive mindset during childbirth, and more!

Pleasure is a fundamental part of the human experience that enhances well-being and quality of life. Why Good Sex Matters author, Dr. Wise, is a certified sex therapist, relationship specialist, and neuroscience researcher. Her studies help address the gaps in literature regarding the neural basis of human sexuality. Dr. Nan is passionate about teaching her clients techniques to manage stress and experience more pleasure in their daily lives and relationships.

Listen in as she discusses how physiological and psychological factors can either enhance pleasure and flow or diminish these experiences during both labor, delivery, and intimacy. Ep 97 Description:
"If that's something that I could encourage other pregnant people to do, is to try to have that clarity about their wants and their needs and their desires, and then to verbalize from a place of clarity to their provider. That inner state of clarity is very important in the conversation." โNicole Heidbreder
"My job was to not try to fix things and be more of a listener." โAmir Niroumand
While vaginal birth is often seen as the ideal, for many birthing experts a medically-necessary cesarean section is the safest option. However, the sterility and clinical nature of surgery can make cesareans feel less personal than desired. But with intentional planning, cesareans can still honor a person's needs and vision for birth.
In this episode, we are joined by DONA International approved Birth doula trainer, Nicole Heidbreder and her partner, Amir Niromand. As a labor and delivery nurse and birth doula of many years, Nicole had clear visions for her own birth plans. However, after struggling to conceive for over a year and experiencing multiple miscarriages, she was forced to reconsider everything.
Nicole and Amir discuss their journey trying to conceive for over a year, which included multiple miscarriages. Nicole explains how her history as a labor and delivery nurse and doula led to shifting her birth plans after being diagnosed with fibroids. She details emotionally accepting surgery and a planned cesarean. Nicole created a supportive medical team and shares her vision for a "magnificent cesarean" honoring her, Amir, and their transition to parenthood, outlining her birth and postpartum plans.
Tune in and learn the importance of grieving loss, the role of clear communication with medical providers, the impact of community support, and the power of crafting a birth centered on the birthing person's needs, voice, and choice.
