On this week's episode, Mari and Jeff are back in the same room to discuss Judas and the Black Messiah, but not before they discuss Barb and Star (again), one of Mari's favorite movies Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Hotel Cecil and all of its creepies, and the fun animation of The Great North. They also quick spotlight the Critics Choice Awards and the Gotham Awards winners and what they mean for the season. Mari and Jeff then deep dive into The Sound of Metal, and if this film doesn't win an Oscar for sound, they'll riot. (Too soon?)Riz Ahmed is incredible in this film; the relatively unknown artistic team did the damn thing well.

Plus the fact that Warner Bros. and HBO are killing movie theaters. They also break down Ron Howard's new movie on Netflix, Hillbilly Elegy, that is getting a lot of shit. Did the book/film adaptation need to be made? Why now? What were audiences meant to leave with after this film?
