Mari and Jeff discuss some changes in the movie industry on this week's episode, including a later 2021 Oscar date, Oscar eligibility period changes, how dumb AMC is, and what this all means for upcoming movie releases. (Plus Jeff tells a story about how his friend WENT OFF on a waitress for not wearing a mask - seriously, wear a damn mask, guys. There's a pandemic.) They also watched 1988's Rain Man this week and discuss what the movie did and didn't do for the public awareness of autism. The film industry, like most industries, has a long way to go to be a catalyst for anti-racism. A LONG way to go, and a long terrible history to prove it. Mari and Jeff watched 1989's Driving Miss Daisy this week, a skim-the-surface story of 1960s race relations (cough cough Green Book cough), and they talk about why this movie isn't helpful. They also provide some ways for listeners to donate to important causes for the Black Lives Matter movement, as well as film and books that are important to watch/read in this moment of education on the Black experience. (Plus, the take a trip to space briefly to talk about Space Force and how Mari in finally watching the full Star Wars series.)

This week, Mari watched some movies she's had on her watch list for FOREVER, plus discusses her obsession with HBO's Watchman. Jeff talks about how terrible Robocop is but how ICONIC Lady Gaga's "Rain on Me" is. They also watched Dances with Wolves (1990) this week; a movie that was beautiful, but way too long. They discuss how Kevin Costner ruined Dean Semler's career (Dicks Out for Dean, baby), some issues they had with the lack of traditional Native American music in the film, how beautiful South Dakota is, and why the movie's POV is eerily similar to Greenbook - and why that's a problem.

Silence of the Mari & Jeff - geez, these two just keep talking this week! On this week's episode, they discuss Hulu's Normal People, Andrew Garfield movies, the Brat Pack and movies that hold up/don't hold up, Jeff's horror book club, if Netflix movies & shows are interchangeable, and their mutual love for Scooby Doo. OH, and they watched The Silence of the Lambs. (Yes, Mari watched a horror movie!) It took Mari and Jeff two full weeks to be emotionally ready for a quarantined Schindler's List viewing... and they finally did it. On this week's episode, they discuss some fun things like Middleditch & Schwartz, Nicole Byer, and Netflix's dumb affinity for dating shows, but then they dive deep (almost too emotionally deep for Mari...) into the 1993 Best Picture Winner. They discuss its general reception, the cultural impact of the film, feedback from the Jewish community, the girl in the red coat, and everything in between. Words can't really describe the movie, but Mari and Jeff tried their best.

This week, Mari and Jeff watched an American classic <3 They first discuss the end of Schitt's Creek, the live action Lion King, Ozark, and spicy books. Then, they dive into 1994's Forrest Gump - one of the most timeless and beautiful stories every told. They discuss how Mari never knew it was adapted, how literally no one could have played Forrest except Tom Hanks (although he almost didn't), and how challenging it is to create a movie than spans several decades. Life is a box of chocolates, friends, you never know what you're gonna get - but you CAN count on the fact that Mari and Jeff will always stan America's Dad.
