Lakeydra served in the Air Force in Military Police. She is working to bring accountability for Denisha Montgomery Smith’s death.

Military Sexual Trauma is something Lakeydra has experienced personally and understands what servicemembers are experiencing. Working to shed light on the issue, Lakeydra says that leadership’s attitudes must change for permanent change to happen.

Amy worked with Lindsey Knapp on the Department of Defense’s Sexual Harassment Assault Prevention and Response Program (S.H.A.R.P). Lindsey Knapp served in the Army and got out to become a sexual trauma victim advocate. She talks with me about her story from transitioning from military service to becoming an attorney to now working on sexual assault cases.

Currently, Lindsey is the Executive Director of Combat Sexual Assault, a nonprofit organization that empowers survivors of Military Sexual Trauma by overcoming barriers to obtaining justice. Source (LinkedIn).

According to Lindsey, Denisha’s case is not unusual. The similarities between Vanessa Guillen’s case and Denisha’s show that there is a playbook that certain units in the Army follow to avoid scrutiny and oversight. The only difference is that Denisha sent her family a 13-minute video detailing an assault before she died.

I learned a lot about this case and about how different military and civilian employers handle sexual assault cases.

I consider this a follow-up to number 314 which dropped on October 20, 2022 (https://oscarmikeradio.com/314-jesse-james-dupree.../). I was given the opportunity to learn more about the VFW’s UnMet Needs Program. VFW Program Directory Lynn Rolf helped set up the interview with Jesse James Dupree and as we were talking, I came to realize that a lot goes on behind the scenes. Lynn took the time to talk with me and share what the VFW does when it comes to helping Veterans.

Lynn was a military police commissioned officer in the Army.

After he left the Army, Lynn went back home where he got connected with the   VFW. It was there that he discovered a new purpose after his military service.

Currently, Lynn is the Director of Programs at the Veteran for Foreign Wars at the national level. Lynn was able to share how the UnMet Needs program has helped Veterans, and as you will see how the program left a lasting impact on his life.

During a Cocktails in the War Room Family Zoom Meeting and my good friend David, “Vito” Brito says, “Travis, Jesse James Dupree would be a good guest for your show. He has done a lot for Veterans.” I knew this to be true because when I went to Tennessee for then-State Commander Brian Walker’s Fundraiser, I was told that Jesse was a true supporter of the VFW and Veterans. I reached out and spoke with Lynn Rolf, Director of Programs at Veterans of Foreign Wars, (He is going to be on #315), and then I had a time scheduled to talk with the man himself.

Jackyl was taking the stage by storm when I was in the Marine Corps. We would play “Headed for Destruction” when Charlie Battery rolled out. We all knew what Jackyl was about and that was just fine by us.

Talking with Jesse, I realized that his desire to help Veterans comes from a real place. He talked about his work with the VFW’s Unmet Needs program and how it impacts Veterans’ lives. Jesse said that everyone can do something that can help others or Veterans. He has taken elements from Jackyl, American Outlaw Spirits MIXER, and Might Loud, and used everything to help Veterans in need. I believe that is the lesson. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are in life. I learned that anyone has the capability to make a change.
