Over here at OHC, we're no stranger to Netflix adaptations or original Netflix anime, some of which have been our favorites. This week's review isn't about an anime but it is an adaption of one of the most beloved anime of all time, even people who don't like anime have seen or know of Cowboy Bebop, and some that are waiting to watch to savor that good-good 90s nostalgia. wink wink. Netflix couldn't leave well enough alone so we couldn't let Netflix slide with this one. We brought on our good friend Kristella to help us out since she is a huge fan of Cowboy Bebop. Did we rip it apart? Did we actually not hate it? The Review starts at 33:00 minutes.

Squid Game has taken the world by storm being the number one show on Netflix pretty consistently for the past few months and we put it to the test against the anime version Kaiji Ultimate Survivor. Since Kaiji is one of Dan's favorite anime, and Amelia loves horror/ death game shows we thought what a great idea. We watched two shows for this one and boy I think we might be anime'd out! So Halloween has come and gone, but we decided not to review a “horror” title this season. Let’s face it, the medium is lacking in this department. So we decided to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Otaku No Video! The penultimate fan parody of otaku culture from the 90s. We’re back this week to talk about a pretty unique film that was created almost single handedly by Kenji Iwaisawa called On Gaku Our Sound. This isn’t just your run of the mill anime movie about a delinquent guy who looks like Saitama and wants to start a band. No, this is very stylized story telling mixed with vibrant sound design and animation sequences that pop out of the screen. This film is definitely something anyone who has gotten into any kind of music can relate to and rang pretty true to Geoff and Dan who have been in numerous bands of their own. We also talk a bit about what anime we’re excited for in the coming months, try to plan stuff on air by accident, and uh well both Geoff and Amelia’s power decided to give out at the very end of the episode but we managed to salvage it.

What happens when Japan thinks "We need more Star Wars, but let's make it anime." They spread a piece of the Star Wars pie around to a bunch of different studios and whabam Star Wars: Visions. We're not saying we hated it but we're not not saying that either. We come from a couple different Star Wars fandom backgrounds, one mildly big fan, one moderate fan, and Amelia, who really doesn't care about Star Wars at all. We break this one down by episode and tell you our favorites... and Dan rants about his new chicken neighbor.. hence the title.

So a magical girl and a demon cat thing walk into a bar.... Now that we have your attention it's been 10 years since the birth of one of the most iconic genre subverting series to grace our eyes and for this episode we decided we needed a little help from our good friend Kristella. She found us a really cool online academic journal that brings up a lot of really compelling and provocative takes on this magical girl classic. It's been 10 years.. we can say it's a classic now, right? Oh and Kristella and Dan go off about One Piece for like a half hour cuz Kristella is doing the anime god's dirty work by bingeing OP in like a few months.
